Iran - would Blair get away with it?

Just following on from US's thread, do you think there are any circumstances in which the British public would tolerate a military strike/intervention in Iran?

There was so much (still is) shit over Iraq, Blair must be cacking himself over the decision.

But if Bush makes his mind up (and I think he already has), what's Blair going to do if he's 'politely asked' to help? The American public will swallow the action easier overall, but the Brits would be very sceptical.

Although there seems little that Blair would not do in his subservience to Washington, I think the country would be deeply hostile to this.

Most of the main governments involved in the war on terror have been re elected, Bush, blair and Howard.

You are not "The public", you are part of a noisey minority, learn to deal with it.

Blair has showed an appetite for military intervesion without the US, Seirre leone for example.

subserviance would be puting our foreign policy under EU controll or Kow Towing to those who want to destroy us.

We used to hang people like you.

Glad to see your brief exile to NSP has not improved your powers of debate or political sophistication, Newt.

If Blair agreed to it, then we could justifiably call him a mass murderer.

It will be many tens of thousands of innocent Iranians, Iraqui's Pakistanis, Afghans, Uzbeks, and Saudi's who would have to live with radioactive contamination for decades, if not centuries, to come, who would suffer most.

Remember, there are still people alive today, who now suffer from, or who are passing on to future generations, congenital illnesses caused by Hiroshima & Nagasaki.

i would bet my house on the fact that the americans will leave it to isreal to bomb it.

they did so in iraq and if they believe that Iran will use a Nuclear bomb on them, especially as their PM said that Isreal should be wiped off the face of the map, then I think they have every justification.

Aww, leave him alone. Where would any thread of this nature be without NSC's very own geopolitical guru?

Let's think about this.

Bush bombs Iran. Knowing the yanks, they cock it up and hit Pakistan by mistake.

Pakistan protests to the UN, the yanks ignore this.

Meanwhile Palestine, Eygpt, Jordan & Syria all ally themselves to Pakistan.

Pakistan allies itself with China, yanks get all contrite & say ' it wasn't us guv, honest '.

China says, f*** you, we're the worlds biggest Comminist power & you just pissed one of our mates off, so take that Washington.

China bombs US West Coast.

We sit in the middle of this like a rabbit staring into oncoming headlights........

Sounds just like the start of World War One, except:-

For Serbia read Pakistan,
For Austro-Hungarian Empire read USA,
For Sarajevo read Iran
and
For Russia read China.

Of course, it's all just scaremongering, butwho knows........

May be of interest to the grown-ups.

If Puny ever emerges from the backside of whichever neo-con loonytunes his tongue is currently stuck in I may take him more seriously.

My own view of this is that were Blair to take us to war with Iran, there would be a No-confidence Motion in the House of Commons and he would almost certainly lose it, forcing a General Election. I don't think the Conservatives would muster behind him on this, unlike with the Education Bill. The inevitable result would be a landslide for Gordon Brown, especially if he declined to back Blair, and the Conservatives left looking highly indecisive, in view of their backing for the war in Iraq.
