International Women's Day certainly helped make me aware of how far we have to go with the issues of gender inequality and everyday sexism. I'm sure I speak on behalf of many blokes when I say that all the birds who helped organise it deserve a pat on the bottom for their efforts. But now if they could just run along and put the kettle on! :)

Big thing here in Brazil, it's like another bloody Mother's Day.
Cards are given, presents are expected and if you go to a bar or restaurant it's normal for them to receive little gifts from there too.
Also, Valentines Day and Mother's Day have different dates here than in the UK and because the Mrs lived a few years there she expects both dates to be honoured.
What do I get? Nada, even Steak and Blow job Day gets forgotten about.

On a Saturday?
Indeed. Public holidays which are on a fixed date don’t move. If it falls on a weekend you lose it. Same with German Unity day. Most shops are closed; this is the only noticeable difference. The flip, if they fall on a Tuesday or a Thursday many businesses give their staff the corresponding Monday or Friday off as well, a Brückentage as it’s called.
