Inability to shoot from range...

And awkward angles..

It seems we are insistent upon trying to walk the ball into the net.

There were a few occasions yesterday where a blast at the keeper could have resulted in a gifted rebound for an incoming player or a goal-line scramble but instead a poor short cross or running into a wall of defenders was the preferred option.

How many goals have we conceded in this fashion ? Loads..

I noticed that Bennett was trying to get more central a few times to tee up for a shot from distance but got stifled. Now thats what I'm talking about. More of that please......

said exactly the same thing to my mate ROBERT yesterday, we were trying to be like Arsenal and walk it in but obviously nowhere near as good. On that greasy surface any shots at the keeper could've slipped away from him so we had to do that....but we did'nt.

Sooooo many bad things to come from the game and so little positives.

I think we have at least 3 that could be useful from range, Bennett, Dickinson and Cox. Murray and Forster certainly know where the goals are too so they should be encouraged to have a pop a bit sooner.

The outcomes could be as follows:

1, A Goal
2, A tip over/to the side of the goal resulting in a corner.
3, A save. Well at least we tested the keeper !
4, A penalty area scramble.
5, An uncontrolled clearance from the defence resulting in the ball coming back to us.
etc etc

I think the pros could outweigh the cons...

The ball is NEVER FED to a player in a position to shoot, so we certainly are NOT going to be scoring any goals in that way. Fact.

Exactly. The ball gets passed to Forster and Dickinson who are usually alone upfront, so are often marked, forcing them to have to try to get closer to get a shot.

The midfield are either too slow or simply reluctant to come forward often enough, meaning Fozzie and Dickinson (or whoever our front pair are on the day) don't have an option to lay it off to them to shoot from range. Dickinson does give it a go occasionally.

I think essentially what we all seem to agree time and time again on numerous threads recently is that our midfield is not up to it.

Essentially the whole Dicker v Crofts/Navarro issue leads directly to our current predicament. We have three defensive midfielders who don't necessarily have the required guile to play further up the pitch delivering cute passes and incissive through balls.

I know creative midfielders are like gold dust but we don't seem like we are even testing the water as far as that is concerned.

Better midfield brings more attacking players into the game = chances = shots = goals = victories.

This is exactly what i was thinking yesterday! If we shoot from range what is the worst that can happen!? We need players to be a bit more ambitious and have a go from range!

yesterday Forster and Dickinson both had chances where they were running clear at goal from an angle and decided to just pass the ball across the 6 yard box where a defender easily cleared it. They should have just smashed a shot at goal! from that distance the keeper is not going to hold onto it, so its either going to be a goal, tipped away for a corner, or a goal mouth scramble! so many times yesterday i was sitting there thinking 'just f***ing shoot!'

Maybe Roberts could be the answer if/when we sign him

At the very least the crowd would get a more enjoyable spectacle. This should have so happened with Tranmere where a keeper who had just been brought in would have had no rapport with his defenders, Dickinson was supposedly renowned for his shooting ability.

Dicker can shoot from range, dickinson definately can (just about the only part of his game i admire), bennett probably couldnt but i think we could bring him around to it with a good bit of coaching (not that he will get that at the moment)
