...the hand of god goal from maradonna was disallowed back in 1986, and linker had scored that goal which he should have scored, would have england won the world cup, i dont really remember it as i was only 8 at the time

YES because we would've beaten Belgium in Mexico City and done the Germans in the Final.

We were battering the Argies when Lineker got that goal back - would DEFFO have gone on to win that game. How Lineker didn't stick that late chance away at the far post from the cross by Barnes I'll never know.
Agony.

We had a fairly good chance in 86 of winning it, possibly a better one in 90, before not even qualifying for USA 94.

Just to throw a spanner in the works... when Lineker missed that sitter, he further damaged his wrist and would have been OUT of the rest of the tournament. FACT... Not sure who the subs were, but I think it would have been a choice of Kerry Dixon or Mark Hateley.. can't somehow have seen either of them as a World Cup winning combo with Beardo!

Agony.

There's a special manual that the England players have to read before embarking on a match of major importance...see Gazza against the Germans in the semi's of Euro96

Doubt it, the only time we've beaten the krauts in the finals was a home game with an extremely dodgy "goal".

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

Don't remember 86 too well (was only 9 at the time) but regarding 1990, in the words of Bobby Robson, "I'm not saying we would have beaten Argentina in the final, but my house would have been on it".
