What would you do if Mrs Fisher drops today ?.

If he has a chance of winning one of the best and biggest spectacles in the World not to mention around £ 500 000 to help secure the kids future or run off to the hospital to see the birth ?.

Can't someone film it on their mobile for him ?.

Whats wrong with the bloke its a no brainer. Whats the appeal at being at the birth anyway ?, all rather messy.

Get a grip Ross.

He will have a chance of winning the Open next year, only have one chance of being at your child's birth.

Times have changed though. As a man it used to be seen as a sign of weakness to show any kind of emotion. These days in some peoples eyes you are seen as a hard face bastard if you do not show emotion.

I was at the birth of all my kids and can honestly say it was an event I would not have missed for the world. Holding your child just moments after birth makes you fully realise just how wonderful nature is.

........I can imagine a rather upset Mrs. Fisher adding a little caveat to that of......".......yes, I,ll probably have more babies...............................but they,re unlikely to be yours..!"

Is the right answer.

A man who doesn't want to be at his child's birth, or feels no emotion on the occasion, is no man at all.

I think I would leave halfway through, unless there were only a few holes left then I think I would finish first...

a generation ago, if you even at the hospital you probably didnt go into the delivery. now you must otherwise you failed somehow? while its great to be there i think people are getting precious about it, and some friends who've have been at the birth gave the impression they where underwhelmed by the event. as argued in the OP, chance to secure childrens future is just as important.

I never had any wish to be at the birth of any of my 3 boys and believe that a woman looks at her best when she has been all 'cleaned up' and laying or sitting in bed with the new baby in her arms.

Think it is important to be at the birth. With our first their were complications and it was touch and go for a while with our son. How would you feel if something went wrong and you were playing golf. One of those never forgive yourself moments.

Also even given that there were complications the birth of both my children was very special, and would not have wanted to miss it for anything.

He'll be far better able to provide for his baby's future life if he misses the birth and wins the Open. It'll be something for his little 'un to be proud of forever.

Dads are very much of a spare part at a births anyways. The mopping of the brow thing witht he hot towel does NOT go down well. As in 'Get the f*** away from me!' Nice. Been to the birth of both me kids and have to say it was like being at the scene of a particularly bad road accident both times. And nobody told me about the afterbirth thing. Thought the midwife had pulled the then-missus' SPLEEN out by accident

Abort, retry, fail
Difficult to hypothesise as I have never been at the birth of a my own child (I am childless for the time being) and I have never been in contention for The Open. I am erring on the side of staying and playing golf.
