By the looks of it (and this is just my observation), a large proportion of the folk stranded / starving etc in New Orleans are black. Most of the photos on line, on the telly and in the papers are of the black population. Note, the same ethnic group who were once so terrible oppressed in the deep south of America.

I really do wonder whether Dubya and his cronies would have sprung into action far quicker if the hurricane had hit a white, middle-class area.

Why does this always have to become a race thing ?, the people you are seeing are mostly black as New Orleans is a "mostly" black city. If you watch enough coverage then there are plenty of whites, mexicans, vietnamese etc.. affected particularly in the other hard hit counties like Biloxi etc... it's a tragedy for all concerned irrespective of colour.
