Liverpool legend Ian Rush has been handed the manager's job at Chester City, BBC Liverpool has learned.
Rush, who started his career at Chester in 1979 before moving to Liverpool in 1980, will take up the post at the League Two club immediately.
Chester caretaker manager Ray Mathias has been appointed director of football at the Diva Stadium.
Rush, 42, takes over from former England defender Mark Wright, who left the club earlier this month.
Rush scored 14 goals in 33 appearances in seven months at Chester before being snapped up by Liverpool.
He went on to become one of the biggest names in the club's history, winning the League five times, the League Cup four times, the FA Cup three times and the European Cup in a glorious career at Anfield.
Rush also played for Juventus, Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield United and Wrexham.
