ive got a problem with spyware and assorted crap,i am reluctant to buy something that is no more effective than the norton i currently run can anyone suggest a freeware program(even for a trial period)than not only finds but destroys?

try looking for spybot. it is a free download and isnt even a trial. all your and fully operational for free.

Yup, Spybot and AdAware are both highly recommended. Either of them do a good job, or have both for extra protection against the spyware returning. They are both free to use.

There is one going round, that hi-jacks your homepage, determines where you search, and is awkward to get rid of.

It even prevents visiting of the site, and downloading of CWShredder ....except in the zipped format - which it can't yet prevent. CWShredder checks your system, eradicates all of the hijacker invasions, and I believe it fixes the java hole the virus got in through.
