Firstly i'm going to presume that Beckham will take it has he may feel he has a point to prove and is not a 'bottler'.

My worry is that after Barthez's comments Beckham might just be too conscious of other keepers trying to decide whether he will hit it left or right. Accordingly he may try to compromise by just smacking it hard down the middle. One inherent danger of going for power is getting to much elevation but more importantly i worry that a keeper may suss his thought processes and simply stand his ground. Don't forget that in Japan the Argie keeper was not a million miles from saving it with his trailing leg.

What the concensus opinion? Does anyone think someone else should take it? Rooney because has has no fear factor? Heskey cos the lads are tired and fancy coming home early?:censored:

there is no other obvious penalty taker in this squad! owen has missed them regualary lampard and gerrard have taken them in the prem this season but aint regulars

i think he just needs to stick to his guns decide in training were he is gonna put it and then just be confident and let the keeper worry were he's gonna put it

He'll have been practising penalties ever since that game and that being the case, should be sufficiently confident to avoid being psyched out.

Just put it in either bottom corner, Becks, and you can't go wrong.

Ironically i was at a mates marriage to a Greek girl when the Greeks surprised the Portuguese so i haven't see that penalty. When news of the game filtered thtough to the reception of course all the Greek guests went loopy.

I reckon my mate benifited too as the guests were so happy they went banzai when it came to the traditional pinning of the money on the bride & groom. The were covered in £50 & £20 quid notes and it hands down beat all the usual wedding gift shite.

How many times has Beckham lifted the ball over a wall and hit the top corner with a thirty yard free kick. For someone of his talent it should be possible to hit the top corner 99.99% of the time from 12 yards with only a goalie in front of him and no goalkeeper in the world would save it. Therefore did the pressure get to much for him on Sunday.

He will take the next one England get, asuming he still on the pitch, and in all probability he will score it.

Personally I do not think he should take them - I would give it to either Gerrard or Lampard and let them do the business for us!

He needs to practice the Leon Knight shuffle.
