Chris Hughton: Still fears relegation
Chris Hughton believes Brighton are still in a battle to secure their Championship status after being held to a goalless draw by Huddersfield at the Amex Stadium.
The Seagulls are seven points above the drop zone and, although they ended a run of three successive defeats, it is now nine hours and 20 minutes since one of their players last scored a goal.
Albion have three games remaining, starting with a trip to Wigan on Saturday, and boss Hughton admitted: "The situation is still the same.
"Once you start relying on other teams it makes it difficult. It's very much in our own hands. We are going to Wigan on Saturday needing a positive result."
Albion had midfielder Joao Teixeira, who is on loan from Liverpool, stretchered off with an ankle injury late on and Hughton said he was taken to hospital for an x-ray.
Teixeira was hurt following a challenge on Huddersfield striker Nahki Wells and Hughton admitted he does not yet know the full extent of the injury.
He added: "The best thing to do from my point of view is to make sure we find out exactly what it is. He's gone to hospital for an x-ray and we know it was on his right ankle."
Hughton leapt to the defence of on-loan striker Leon Best, who was booed by sections of the home crowd when being substituted for Craig-Mackail Smith with 16 minutes remaining.
Best, on loan from Blackburn, is now without a goal in six starts and six substitute appearances for the Seagulls but Hughton said: "My first thought is that it was not personal.
"It was frustration at how the game was going. We have a super crowd but they are feeling frustrated at not getting results and not scoring the goals; it was general frustration."
Huddersfield's point ensured their Championship status with three games remaining but boss Chris Powell admitted there would be no letting up from his players from now until the end of the season.
He said: "I want us to top what we've done in previous seasons. I'd love us to get to 60 points, which would be something to achieve.
"I want us to finish the season unbeaten and we have still got another nine points to play for.
"I want us to carry on the momentum and I want us to win every game and not just to experiment.
"We're at home to Derby on Saturday before we entertain Blackburn and then we have a trip to Blackpool on the final day. All the games are important to us.
"We will see what happens and I'll do my best to keep us improving. We have conceded 10 to 15 goals too many and next season this is an area where we will have to be better."
Powell felt a draw was about right in the clash before a crowd of 23,270 at the Amex Stadium, and added: "All our players put in a top effort and I couldn't ask for more - except for a winner.
"A point each was about right and there were definitely chances for us. Every manager is worried about results; you're judged on results.
"We need wins and we need points and that's why we went into the game with two strikers."
