[Politics] How much data do you get for £11,000

Couldn't see this elsewhere.
Scottish MP Michael Matheson has blamed his kids for racking up an £11,000 data charge whilst using an ipad in Morocco.
£7000 of this was in one day when they used over 7GB of data to watch a football match. That's £1000 per GB of data.
Firstly, does a football match of around 2 hours really use 7GB of data and does that much really cost 7 grand overseas?
On a coach back from an away game many can be seen watching a football match and there is no way they would use that much data*. Indeed I have watched a couple of films off Amazon on a coach journey and got nowhere near my data limit.*
*I've used this as an example of data usage not data cost.

I’m surprised perhaps that he’s also acknowledged this was presumably used for illegal football streaming as well

MP you say?

Expenses shirley?

Edit: just read the post linking to the BBC article posted when typing this. I WAS half joking but the t0sser did actually claim it. Unbelievable.

Not necessarily illegal. Depends on terms of contract. Does Sky allow you to log in from overseas? Alternatively, there will be legitimate local providers you could sign up to while on holiday.

There is a picture of his bill on the BbC website

BBC News - Michael Matheson says sons used iPad data to watch football
From the linked article: 'He said the iPad itself had not been used by his children but had been used as a hotspot to allow internet access for other devices.'

Maybe his kids (and half the other holidaymakers in their resort!) streaming matches from the ipad to their phones racked up the extra charges?

From my experience Sky/BBC etc are very good at blocking overseas IPs and most of the commercial VPN product IPs

I was online roaming for no more than 60 secs. in Albania (where there is no cheapo charge rate) and it cost me
40 quid.

HD streaming can use around 3GB an hour (UHD about double that) so sounds about right. Quite normal for a non-included country data to be a couple of quid per MB or more (have definitely seen it as high as £6 per mb) so again doesn’t sound wrong.

11 grand?

I'll give you NSC's database. Is that enough?
Cheap at the price. There must be something there that somebody would pay to hide

The real crime here is the **** prick telco companies who think it is morally acceptable to charge 11k for 3gb of data.
