We here a lot of clubs being reffered to as big but how do you actualy define a big club ?

Is it by current league position and form or form over a period of time.
Is it by the size of a stadium, attendance or the potential of the catcment area. ?

Or by the amount of trophys and titles won which is obviously going to have a large effect on the above ? a few years ago you hardly saw anyone wearing chelsea shirts now you see them everywhere ( especialy in eastbourne ) being typicaly worn by balding chubby middle aged men with red faces, probably the same crowd wearing man U shirst a few seasons back.

Anyhow for example Wigan are in the premiership along with Blackpool, does that automaticaly make them a bigger clubs than Brighton or do you look further back over time and look at the fact when we first gained promotion to the top flight Wigan were still a non leauge club ?

Fanbase, status in the history of the league, the associated cups.

Brighton are a sleeping giant, we haven't been a big club in a while, if ever. But we've got the catchment for a huge fanbase, status in the football league and associated cups mean we can be a big team.

Nothing to do with league or league position IMO. The likes of Notts Forest / Sheff Weds / Derby or as a league 2 example Bradford are still massive / big ish clubs.

history and consistant fanbase. some clubs still got 20k+ when in the 3rd teir, thats a big club whatever you think of them.

i'd consider Wigan and Blackpool both small clubs, and most their fans probably would too.

slightly off topic but was interested to see that Barnsley have spent longer in the 2nd division (championship) than any other club, also that they have won the FA Cup

I always thought we were bigger than them but apparently not

Barnsley = Fairly big club.

carry on

They averaged under 20k when they were in the Prem for 1 season so I would say we were bigger than them.

Is this a thread of what defines a big club or what size of club BHA are?

I would liken BHA to Huddersfield personally, but thats just my opinion.
