Morning all. Just managed to get vertical ! Parts of my body ache that I didn't even know I had.

Took 8 hours and 20 minutes, and got absolutely drenched just before Ditchling, cycling through a thunderstorm. Didn't even attempt to cycle up the beacon, although I reckon pushing the bike up there was just as knackering as riding it.

However, despite my really slow time, I am superbly proud of myself for having completed the ride, as I am seriously unfit, 39 years old, overweight, a 20 Marlboro red a day smoker, and up until 2 and half months ago didn't even own a bike.

Saw quite a few Albion shirts on the ride, and plenty of shouts of "seagulls" as people cruised past me ! Can't wait to do it again next year.

thats an average of under 7 mph

Ah but that doesn't take into account any stops. According to my bicycle computer thingy, my actual riding time was 5hrs 34 mins 10 secs and average speed was 10.5 mph.

BTW Zef, SF did it in 4hrs 52 mins (incl stops) and cycled up the beacon.

as 10cc say, not in hove
what's the fastest time?

we were at the beacon yesterday morning at just after 8.30am and there were people coming in then! must admit most looked like club cyclists but one or two others were clearly in the "have a go for a laugh" category...

Eight and three quarter hours from start to finish.

We had rain, thunder, hail and lots of beer.

My legs don't work properly today, but I had an excellent time, all the better for the palatial overnight accommodation on Saturday night.

I owe you, Lush.

Biscuit is at college I think. He cycled up the beacon so is very pleased with himself.

5 hours for me, saw plenty of stripes (I had the centinery on) and also a few scummers who commented on Huddersfield and laughed at me when I said what team the top was! Knees hurt abit but everything else is in working order and my bum aint sore!

Hi all!

Glad to see Biscuit managed to ride up Turners Hill as well as Ditchling, I didn't due to shear numbers at Turners. Although managed to do all of the Beacon :clap2: (just).

Total riding time was around the 5 hour mark I'm glad to say and got quite a few 'seagulls' shouts along the way in Sussex from people watching on the streets as I wore the stripes.

Thought the organisation was a bit pants on some of the roads as I lost track of the amount of times I had to stop for one reason or another. (my only little moan as I must have lost 15-30minutes at Turners Hill.)

I completed the ride in 5 hrs 7 mins cycling time, with a further 1 hour of rest stops along the way.

Like Pasty I got a number of Albion related shouts along the way which really spurred me on. I even managed to finish in front of an old boy in a Palace shirt which was a miracle because he looked like a keenish rider!

Crabtree - That same group of Scummers passed me somewhere around Haywards Heath/Ditchling and said the same thing!

It took me more hours than I care to note, but did it, and the damn beacon still does not defeat me :)

I spoke to a couple of Seagulls on the way down - it wasn't Crabtree or Le Premier Cru, so it might have been some others. I dunno :bounce:

Anyway great day, and the best part was... anytime it rained, i was under a canopy of trees or in a tunnel

did'nt rain that much during the ride apart from a shower coming into brighton but that did'nt last long, if anything the ride back to southwick was the worst part...against the wind and it pissed it down!

Was it an NSC-er I saw at the start ?

About 7.30, I was in the left hand side start lane with a mate, both of us in stripes, and waved to someone in the right hand side start lane wearing the stripes.

Another Albion fan (not in stripes) started talking to me about Cardiff at the Turners Hill melee.
