After the Champions League took on a greater significance, nothing was ever going to compare.

Where once upon a time you could have had AC Milan, Marsaille, Man Utd, Real Madrid and PSG vying for the trophy you now have sides such as Oviedo, Udinese and Compostela. It just doesn't match up any more. I always counted it second behind the European Cup (other countries don't seem to take their cup competitions very seriously), but now it is a bit of a joke really.

The best idea is, as Spiros said, to award a Champions League place to the winners, orherwise it is just a bit of a distraction for teams chasing third or fourth place in their national leagues.

I think that if you win your countrys versionj of the ldv vans you should enter at the first round of the intertoto thing, instead of this fair play crap. Would make it intressting if each contrys 3rd divsions clubs got through to the proper stages of the uefa cup
