HOLLYWOOD STAR COMES TO WITHDEAN
by Andy Naylor
Hollywood film star Wesley Snipes will be at Withdean Stadium for Albions Championship fixture against Sheffield United on Saturday. The actor, famous for his leading roles in all-action films such as Passenger 57 and The Art of War, will be a guest of celebrity DJ Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, and will take his place in the Directors Box alongside Albion Chairman Dick Knight and the directors.
Snipes (pictured right) is in the UK this week to star in a video for the next Fatboy Slim single, due to be released from his new Palookaville album in December. The single, called Masochistic Baby, will also be featuring in the new Wesley Snipes action/horror movie Blade III - Trinity, which opens in UK cinemas next February.
Cook said yesterday: "I've know Wesley for about a year now after we met in LA. He admitted he was a fan of my music, and asked if I'd lay a track which could be used in the new Blade movie. I'm a massive fan of the Blade films, so of course I was delighted. The producers at New Line Cinema have heard Masochistic Baby and given it the thumbs up, so now we're just finishing shooting the video and I thought I'd invite Wesley along to the match. After all, it's a special day, Palookaville day this Saturday, so why not ?".
Wesley Snipes was genuinely enthusiastic and looking forward to Saturday. "Norm has been sending me over these Brighton programmes every week for about a year" he laughed. "I practically know the team off by heart now. Leon Knight, Danny Cullip, Chippy Carpenter, and hey I'd never even heard of the Albion till Norm started bugging me over them. Normally I'm a Bears fan (baseball), but I'm looking forward to seeing some real english soccer while I'm over here, it sounds like a lot of fun".
Alarmingly, Snipes's mood turned swiftly when it was suggested he was no more than an overrated Hollywood b-list journeyman actor who was utter shite in Demolition Man, and who's career was now hanging by a thread. "Mother FUCKER" he said. "You stuck-up backward limey Brit fucktard with your quaint little cottages, bad teeth and pissy warm tea, why don't you go f*** yourself, asshole". Norman Cook attempted to step in and lead him away, but the suddenly menacing Snipes was having none of it. "I'm gonna cram that god damn tape recorder up your ass if you don't get it out of my face right now you fucker". The interview then further degenerated into a slanging match and we were forced to wrap it up at this point.
A limited number of tickets are still available for the Sheffield United match. Contact the ticket office on 01273 776992.
