Across NSC I'm seeing people who (again) are insistent about our imminent success in the next season, placing goal-scoring numbers on the strikers we are going to need, and with obviously high expectations.

Since when has football fallen into place like your imagination wanted it to?
That sort of thing does happen for Manure supporters, and that is why their fans support them - that sense of security in dreams delivered.
Do you always want to harbour that feeling of the almost-ran, the disappointed suitor to the always-unattained throne?

Football is not so cut and dried, surely last season must have imparted a lesson on you Albion supporters?

Ffs, dream of mid-table achievement, don't put it on Slade to win the league just because he managed to get us scraping our barnacles off the bottom before a horrible sinking. We'd soon be staring sadly at fixtures in the bottom level of the league, but for an amazing turnaround. Keep celebrating that, and look at a season competing a game-at-a-time in League 1 with some hope. We might win a few more matches, we might see some good defending by our lads, and we might see some goals scored.
Expecting Brighton to suddenly own the division is over-stretching the imagination. One game at a time, and don't get miserable if there are better teams out there deserving to take all the points from us.

Hope is great, but the expectations are going to end in a lot more whingeing from the worst whingers.

Top post. Expectation does seem to have gone through the roof recently, although I think we can hope for an improvement on last season.

It wouldnt be NSC without someon tiping us for the Champions League in a few seasons!

We wont get a striker who will score 25 goals and I doubt if we will make the play-offs either!

I hope Im wrong, but Ive got a feeling I wont be!

Playoffs should be a real possibility - although automatic promotion I think is highly unlikely ! We do have a better manager and hopefully a better midfield (given signings) - given that last season I think we would have been pushing for a play off spot.

So why does Tony Bloom (he needs a nickname) want to finish in the top 2?

I here what you saying, we do need to keep our feet on the ground. And we should'nt be disapointed with not going up this season.

But, Tony has made it clear that we need to go up this season or the next, and Slade is our man to do it. We have realsed all are bit part players and i think we will sign some very good players now. There is money.

Its going to be very exciting this/next season.

Surely expectation is what keeps all football fans going? No matter how miserable a season, the slate gets wiped clean, and the anticipation starts building for the next one. Personally, by the time the Worthing friendly comes around, with a chance to see some of the new signings in action, and the return from injury of favourite players, then the new season can't come round quick enough. It's how it should be, and I guess if it ever wasn't then it's probably nature's way of telling you to stop going to football.

It's great to actually have a season to look forward too. Imagine being like Palace fans with nothing.

Where does he say that on video? If he did say it, it's probabably taken out of context. He probably said he'd like to consolidate this year, the interviewer said 'but wouldn't it be nice to get automatic promotion?' and Bloom answered 'yeah I'd like us to finish in the top 2, but that's not very likely'. Headline achieved, journalist happy.

Tony and Russell would like a top-two finish next season, but accept that is setting sights high, however if you want to be successful you have to do just that. A play-off place would be good if not top two, but ultimately the aim is to be in Championship by the time we move to Falmer.
