Herpes!. What would you do if you was in a position where you came into contact with this vile incurable little virus? If you caught it from your ex but just found out would you tell her she’s a carrier and tell her too check her history of lovers and go straight too the clinic or stay silent just in case you got it of a girl before dating her. If you had this vile decease then what would you do ?

What an ignorant thread. There are two ways of 'getting' genital herpes. You can catch it from a person who has already developed the disease or been infected or develop it yourself, as I did, through having a problem with your immune system and it spreading as a secondary infection from it's sister disease shingles. Everyone carries the herpes virus. In most people it lays dormant in nerve fibres at the base of the spine. If you're lucky you'll go through life with the only sign of it being the odd coldsore or bout of chickenpox. If you are unlucky to develop genital herpes one way or another it's not the end of the world as long as you're sensible, try and look after yourself and spot the signs of an attack and try to avoid spreading it by abstinance or using condoms. The first attack is always by far the worse and subsequent outbreaks tend to be less frequent and less severe. Most healthy people will only get one or two attacks every year or so but those who are immunocomprimised may get them more often.

This was why I tried to distinguish the definition of herpes.
My halfbrother died aged 21 from the herpes simplex virus (coldsore) when it caused encephalitus (inflammation of the brain)
He was immunocompromised because he was developing a brain tumour (which we didn't know about until the post mortem)

I'm really sorry to hear that Yorkie and my 'ignorant' comment wasn't aimed at you but the half-baked scaremongering other posts. Threads like this are not only insensitive but irresponsible. Imagine being some poor person who suspects or has just been told they have the infection and then reading some of the crap on here and feeling like their sex life's over or they're some kind of social lepper. As you rightly say, it can be an extremely dangerous virus in any form if you're immuncomprimised. I developed it during chemotherapy treatment for Hodgkins disease after having shingles and had to be put on an intensive six month course of antiviral drugs. Luckily I was able to control it and now only have the odd attack now and then as my health has improved, although my immune system is permanently weakened.

I realised it wasn't aimed at me. I tried to say something similar to you but hadn't the knowledge that you have to back up what I was getting at.

But hey! This is NSC.

Terrace Dandy was asking the question that obsesses us all the time - about everything. WHO IS TO BLAME?

If people wanted useful health advice, they'd surely go to somewhere like NHS Direct and follow the links.

Fair enough but I make no apology for my (over)reaction as it is a sore point (excuse the pun) with me. If people use language like 'vile disease' and 'hang myself fast' then they're gonna wind someone up, might as well be me.

Blame, that's a good question. Not having Yorkie's faith I can't blame God and seeing as I didn't 'catch' mine from a partner I can't blame them or my own lack of protection either. I'll go for just putting it down to shit luck.

Apparently, one of the most common ways of getting genital herpes (whether you're male or female) is through oral sex with someone who has a cold sore (which may, or may not be visible). Difficult to see how you can protect against that...

True and I have to say that some of the BJ's I've had have definately been worth a bit of a rash and a pain down the leg every once in a while.
