Great win in Japan but can anyone work out how many ranking points she won and where this win places her in the LTA rankings?

Not sure, but BBC are suggesting she'll replace Robson as British no. 1 - so probably top 50.

Great to have two young talents soaring up the rankings, both hugely competitive and driven girls who'll no doubt keep wanting to edge ahead of one another. Can't help but feel the media seem to side with Robson a bit more though, Watson doesn't seem to get the same recognition.

She won 280 PTS, and $37,000us in prize money. It leaves her on approx 1185 pts which should be enough to move her into the top 50 when the rankings are released on Monday. She also goes above Laura Robson to become British number 1.

Last British woman to win a WTA was Jo Durie in 1990.

With Laura also getting miles better perhaps we could have a first Grand Slam woman winner since 1977 ?

Durie was the last British Woman to make a final of a WTA event until Laura Robson made the final in China a couple of weeks ago.

No it wasn't. Sarah Gomer in 1988

Yes i know Sarah Gomer was the last winner of a WTA event but have a look at what I wrote again. Durie was the last finalist in a WTA event when she made the final of the Viriginia Slims in 1990 (she lost to Sanchez Vicario). Robson became the first British finalist since then last month and Watson became the first British winner since 88 when she won this morning.
