There could be few complaints from Diamond supporters following this defeat. Brighton showed their championship credentials with a top-class performance to seal a comfortable three points.

Rushden 1-3 Brighton

Brighton enhanced their promotion prospects with a comfortable victory at Nene Park against Rushden.
The visitors took the lead after 42 minutes when Nathan Jones' corner was half cleared by the Diamond defence and defender Guy Butters fired home from 10 yards.

Five minutes into the second half Diamonds equalised when Robbie Pethick was judged to have brought down Rodney Jack and Stuart Gray scored from the penalty spot.

Within three minutes Brighton regained the lead thanks to a superb goal from striker Leon Knight.

The diminutive striker latched on to a through-ball from Jones and, having beaten Andy Edwards, he thundered home a left-foot shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Diamonds thought they had equalised with 66 minutes gone but Brighton's goalkeeper Michel Kuipers pulled off a magnificent one-handed save to deny Gray's bullet header.

And 13 minutes from the end the visitors wrapped up the points with another wonderful goal.

On-loan Zeshan Rahman picked up the ball following a one-two with Chris McPhee and beat Billy Turley with an exquisite lob.
