Have we missed an oppurtunity? FORSTER

Will we miss the boat with Forster? He should at least be in the frame for a coaching position possibly, should have been short term player manager.

He is clearly one of the most intelligent footballers we have seen at the Albion in a long while, reads the game very well and tries to bring his level of understanding to the game (limited by others comprehension some what!).
Well respected both on and off the pitch and has a good media presence. Fresh new young coach or manager could be what the future is about.

Not saying he should immediately take control of the lot but the club should look to bring him foward in the impending twilight of his career and see if we could for once nurture a decent coach or manager. We did do this once with a very good coach but sadly he wasnt a manager - you may recall him!

Obviously just my opinion but why shouldnt we be looking long term for once?

I don't think he is anywhere near ready yet, qualifications wise. He mentioned in the programme that he was still satisfying hours required to make the next step up and took a training session with our U12s. From what he said, it seems he wants to concentrate on playing for the time being, as well as training, rather than being thrown into a job straight away.

I'd like to see his next contract with us involved some support for him to develop as a trainer, with an option to bring him into our training set up when deemed ready.

In general, I'd love the club to adopt a philosophy of allowing our senior players the chance to rise up through the ranks and become coaches from junior level, building themselves up, as long as they show a flair for doing so and are not just put in that position because of who they are. We need proper coaches with real talent and drive, not someone looking for an easy way out when their playing career comes to an end.

I hope Forster does go down that route, lets hope he has what it takes.

All the above very valid but sometimes in life your hand can be forced by circumstance. I just think that as a whole he has demonstrated the requisite pre-qualifictions for being an exceedingly good coach possibly assistant manager to boot! Lets face it, one nasty injury and he could be scrapheaped without us having taken the chance.

The only sour taste is the club have a habit of 'jobs for the boys' without any real regard to ability. It would be excellent to see our club being progressive and looking within and placing staff accordingly.

The great travesty of Wilkins is that he was (still is) a superb coach and with someone to make the match day decisions we might not be in this mess right now AND dare I say could have been a step up the football ladder.

Oh! And can people please stop touting Mr Wise as a possible? If the little thug turns up here I for one will be calling for the board. The boss eyed little turd can FRO, all in my opinion of course!

We need him scoring goals not managing the team. I am sure he will manage us one day but for now we need an older person with the right credentials.

As a previous applicant (a certain Mr Bamber passed over my young looking CV in favour of a Mr Brian Clough) can I stake my claim to the number one job in World Football?
