The institution that is Hanover Day has been cancelled this year due to lack of funding.

I for one am gutted. As a resident of the aforemented area, Hanover day is always a great community event where people really make the effort to get to know fellow residents. Bnads playing on street corners Dalek races, people selling homemade chilli sauces that make you run for the nearest tap/pub (delete as applicable)

Its always a good fun day and will be very much missed this year

This is the first year I have lived up that way and I was looking forward to it. Having said that, how much can it cost to do?

I know im not sure how it costs that much either!!!

Im guessing that they have to pay to close Southover st all day & pay for stewarding. The advertising cant cost much

It's a shame. I have seen that the classic Street Party seems to be making a return in Brighton this year though. Quite a few are planned I think.

I was talking to some mates in the Napier last Sunday and it seems that a lot of the original people involved are no longer involved and the new people haven't managed to get the funding in time.
Having said that they could have postponed it to August, the month it used to be on.

That would be fine by me.

In the article in the arsegas they said that the people who have stepped down from the commitee have not been replaced as noone has come forward. Have they tried advertising then cos ive not seen anything !!!

It also says that the event can still go ahead but it's unlikely. In the pub they were also talking about the sponsorship that they wanted from all the pubs in the area, they wanted £6.00 per head for the capacity of each pub, with high rents the breweries charge not sure the landlords could afford that.

That's the crux of the problem. There seems to have been a last minute plea by the organisers, who asked/demanded this overhead from all the pubs in the area. I don't think it went down too well.

Yes I think you have hit the nail on the head there, obviously the pubs do well out of the whole day, but I think the organisers were asking for a bit too much.
