Albums - for me, it has to include:

Bon Iver (fantastic stuff)
Bill Callahan (what a superb album)
the Juan Macleans (Human League never sounded so good)
Fever Ray (Got into this from NSC. Glad I did)
Oi Va Voi (Bridgette Amofah is quite simply stunning)
Royksopp (can't wait for the follow up album coming soon)

Gigs -

Motorhead (at the Dome)
Candi Staton (Old Market)
Dengue Fever (La Scala)
Elbow (Dome)

but the daddy of them all was the Specials on the Friday night.

What about you chaps?

Went to Blur at Hyde Park yesterday. Was the best gig I've ever been to. Absolutely fantastic.

Neil Young at Glastonbury, one of the best shows I've ever seen, and I have seen a few.

Fave album of the year (if it came out this year that is) is Appeal to Reason by Rise Against.

The democratic and free EU
Enjoyed Friendly Fires a few months ago.

Neil Young at the Ahoy' in Rotterdam in June - and unlike Glastonbury, we did get Like a Hurricane as the encore...

Mogwai two days ago were excellent too.

As for albums, dunno. Ask me later...

New Kasabian Album is superb (although they were very undrwhelming live at Glastonbury).

Gig of the year - Rolf Harris at Glastonbury! Not musically the greatest, but the most unexpected fun I've had for a while. Manics were pretty good at the Dome about a month back.

Been very disapointed with the current crop of output, I have been trawling up overlooked stuff on Spotify recently. It's great for checking out stuff you are unsure about.

My tip ?...... nothing that current, but, look up The Pernice Brothers

Certainly Bobby although I'm no spring chicken myself having celebrated my 40th this year.

Bon Iver is a folky american singer who wrote a beautiful album called "For Emma" this year. It's really quite lovely and if you like Neil Young then I think you might like him too. By the way, also check out the heavily Dylan, Brian Wilson and Neil Young influenced Fleet Foxes. You won't be disappointed.

Bill Callahan is another folky almost Americana type of singer. His album this year just blows me away. He sounds a bit like Lambchop. Check this out:

The Juan Macleans are an electro band that are so heavily influenced by Human League it's untrue. I love a bit of retro electro and their album really pushes my button.

Fever Ray, I got into from here. There's a fair few people on here who's music opinions I trust and Herr Tubthumper came up trumps with this.

Fever Ray album - North Stand Chat

Oi Va Voi are a British band and they play fresh poppy stuff with a Yiddish slant to it. Sounds like it shouldn't work but it does and they have the absolutely gorgeous Brigitte Amofah fronting them. I saw her support Candi Staton earlier this year and she was excellent. The quality on this vid is not good but even with the bad sound you can see how good she is

Royksopp have been going a fir few years now.. Kind of mellow dancey stuff from Sweden. Their album features Swedish singer Lykke Li and also the woman who is Fever Ray (see above).

Presuming you've heard of Candi Staton, Motorhead, Specials and Elbow the only other band I think I mentioned were Dengue Fever. Merry Prankster, Frank Wild Years and I rave about this band. They bill themselves as Cambodia's premier psychedelic rock band! Only the lead singer is Cambodian, the others are American but they are just so so so good. Check this out and tell me that you're not impressed!

Sounds like I missed a great Neil Young gig, by the way. Hope you like some of the stuff I've just listed.

Thanks Mate, yes I will and am listening to those links. Fleet Foxes I saw last week supporting Neil Young, but did not really listen properly as I had a bunch of noisy young drunklen Aussies next to me who would not shut up, but thought they were quite talented, yes a bit folk rock.
