Injury hits Gazza comeback
Paul Gascoigne's hopes of making a Premiership comeback have suffered a blow after he was taken off at half-time during an outing for Wolves' reserves.
The former England midfielder was playing his third game for the Molineux second string but did not reappear for the second half against Blackburn after taking a knock on his shin.
"Gazza took a whack and was feeling tired so we took him off," Wolves assistant Terry Connor told the Sun newpaper.
Gascoigne believes he could perform in the top flight for Wolves but he is struggling to gain match fitness after a lengthy spell away from British football.
The club's official website played down the reports that Gascoigne was injured, saying he had been withdrawn as a "precautionary measure".
Wycombe Wanderers have been linked with a move for the former Spurs and Lazio star since Tony Adams took over at the Causeway Stadium last week.
The two were regular team-mates for England and Adams has admitted recently he would consider giving Gascoigne a chance with his Division Two side.
