Albion*boss Gus Poyet has saluted the hard-earned point which has elevated his side to fourth in the Championship and within sight of sealing a play-off spot.
The Seagulls’ 0-0 draw in their penultimate away fixture at relegation-threatened Peterborough last night was enough to edge them above arch-rivals Crystal Palace, who have a game in hand.
More importantly, they now have a three-point cushion in the play-off zone after Bolton and Nottingham Forest joined Palace in losing away from home.
Poyet told The Argus: “That is why the point was so good. I don’t know when Brighton were last fourth in this division, probably a long, long, time ago, so we really need to enjoy this time.
“Give credit to the players. It is because of them that we are in this position and now we need to keep going.”
Matt Upson and Andrew Crofts both headed against the bar for Albion but Tommy Rowe missed a second-half sitter for Peterborough.
Poyet also admitted Crofts should have been sent off after the break for bringing down Lee Tomlin when he was the last defender.
The Uruguayan said: “I think it was a big decision and, luckily for us, the referee got it wrong.”
Vicente missed the match with hip pain but Poyet expects to have wingers Will Buckley and Kazenga LuaLua back from hamstring injuries for Blackpool’s visit at the weekend.
He added: “We need to think about Saturday now, recover a few players and maybe make a few changes, because Andrea (Orlandi), Crofty, Leo (Ulloa), even Bridgey (Wayne Bridge) are quite tired and we need to be careful not to lose them.”
