Brilliant defence by the Greeks tonight, Portugal didn't look like scoring. And as for their defending at corners, shocking!! All in all it reminded me of the last Albion game I saw!!

Well done Greece!!

:clap2:

I think they're a bit like Reading personally.
Players nobody has heard of, good at set pieces, written off before every competition by the pundits, a clean side, an old manager....

I think every 'championship' side will be comparing themselves to Greece after tonight.

Yeah but Greece won something

I think they are like Charlton. Proving the media wrong and excelling themselves all the time. Anfd only losing when they are actually expecting to win :lolol:

Yeah but none of your good players are defenders. Isn't that why you sniff around Cullip?

Greece, like the Albion, are reminding the pundits about the importance of a good defence.
If only we had a midfield......

It was a disappointment not to see Portugal's Quim in action.
It would have been good to hear Motty.
"Quim covering the ball well."
"Quim getting right behind it"
Great to see him going up to get his trophy.

Greece are exactly like the Albion.
Not the most skilful of teams, not too much flair, but they are solid, bloody well organised, have a great team spirit, and take their chances when they come along. Teams have to work extremely hard to break them down.

Time and again throughout this tournament, Greece have absorbed the pressure from the (supposedly) more talented teams. They never panic, they keep their shape, they defend superbly, and sooner or later they get that chance and BANG, its 1-0 and game over. They did it tonight, they did it against the Czechs, and they did it against the French.

A great spot by the BBC was when the greeks were defending a free kick which was about to be crossed in. As the teams jostled in the penalty area, one defender was frantically signalling to his team mates, imploring the back line away from goal so as not to defend so deep. The back line remained too deep, so the guy goes in and physically HAULS the centre-back out and away from goal, and the team followed. Free kick comes to nothing. Bloody superb.

Fantastic achievement and fully deserved. As Greece and the Albion have shown, you can go a long, long way if you are well organised and determined - it can be enough to overcome anything.

You have to respect their coach who has them so well disciplined in playing to their strengths.

Greece were boring. How many goal attempts?

Not only that, their player's names are unpronouncable.

They even did it without Karagounis, one of their few creative players as well. The bloody fool got booked in EVERY match of the tournament he played in. He got himself suspended for the final group game against Russia, and his yellow cards against France and the Czechs got him suspended for the Final tonight.

:dunce:
