I know this has been done and done but where do you go when you wnat to have a nice relaxing evening in a lovely pub?

Last night i visited the Windmill which is on the road that runs parallel to Western Road to the north. Great pub with marvellous beer, might start going there more often.

One of my favourite pubs in London is Waxy O Connors (just off Leicester Square) - not over priced and pretty old fashioned. Doesnt seem to attract the usual posers either, and as most of the pub is underground, you dont get any annoying ring tones going off.

For the exact opposite reasons, I cant stand any Yates'.

Favourite pub for when Im back home in Sunny Eastbourne is The Counting House.

Sometimes I wanna go where everybody knows my name. Therefore the Thatch in Hassocks is my usual establishment.
Not really commited to an Uckfield local yet despite having lived here for 8 months.

Wasn't that pub the location of a set up on Annie Nightingale's son a few years back where a journalist set him up for a drugs score ?

Favourite pub in Brighton is the Great Eastern or the Font. Locally Red Lion in Hooe is like a step back in time (about 300 years!)

think he was the year above me at snooty Brighton College. I haven't been to the Windmill for about 15 years but it was always a good pub.

I used to like the Volunteer round the corner from the Corn exchange - changed it's name now, I think. Also the Green Dragon in the Surrey Street (I think) was good, as was the Basketmakers. Probably all gone now.

Vounteer = Fitzherberts, Mash Tun?

Green Dragon i believe is now the Office (in the North Laines area?)

Basketmakers is still there serving good beer and good food.

Green Dragon beer garden on a summer Saturday lunchtime was the bollox. I remember drinking 5 pints of Kronenbourg on the day of Live Aid and then going down to the seafront to sleep it off before repairing to another hostelry. Happy days.

My local, the Kings Head in Fishersgate. Free pool on Wednesdays, dukebox played at a decent level (so you can hear each other speak ), landlord is a good laugh, nice little roof terrace for the summer, and doesn't get filled with complete spanners.

A strong challenge coming in from The Albion now though (see the Marvellous Scenes thread)...

used to play Bar Billiards in the Crabtree with my stepdad. That was a mecca for the best game on the green baize by a million miles. Do pubs still have God's own billiards game down there? I played for the Long Man of Wilmington B team as a youth.

ye olde free butt before it got ponced up and made bigger.
lion and lobster for now as my mate works in there (and it is quite nice!!)
the iron duke, always a cracking night....

In no particular order, The Belle Vue (nice view), The Eddy, The Great Eastern, the Lord Nelson, The Eagle (good quiz and food), The Battle of Trafalgar, The Prince Albert, in the lanes the market inn and bath arms, I also like the decor in The Cricketers. All are fine pubs serving decent beer with a good atmosphere.

Hmm I am getting pretty thirsty now, how long till lunch:drink:

Sussex, by the sea
The Duke in Shoreham, or the Royal Sovereign for decent Ale

Heart in Hand in Brighton used to be a haunt, with the original Freebut and the Great Eastern. . . .that was 6-7 years ago now though

Surely you don't mean the Battle of Trafalgar down Trafalgar Road in Portslade ? That place is an absolute dump. I've had to swerve my car at least twice driving past that place after a fight has spilled out onto the street.

Agree with the Market Inn though, very nice indeed.
