I thought the film of about a boy was pretty good. Haven't read the book, but have read High Fidelity, the film of which was ok.

If you want a shit film based on a book try Captain Corelli's Mandolin, or the Harry Potter film. Mind you the HP book's are pretty shite too.

i thought it would be but was pleasantly surprised. its set in america yeah but it was pretty faithful to the book and had some great performaances in it. i loved it when the bald guy is all excited by the prospect of helping wotshisname re-catalogue his record collection rather than go out on a date with a woman:lolol:

the reason i prefer the films is they cut out a lot of hornby's 'philosophising' about life/music/being a bloke. he's pretty funny a lot of the time but he does go on a bit i reck.

The Beach was a good book but the film was crap partly due to Leonardo Di Caprio playing the central role.

As a general rule books are better than films.

Nearly every film I've seen based on a Stephen King book has been shite, while most the books have been pretty good.

The beach was defiantely a complete let down, the book was excellent and the film just f***ed about with too many elements of the story.

As a rule if you read a book first you will nearly always be disapointed by the film.
