Watching him on GOS. He has nothing but praise for BHA. Always follows their results.

Still apologising for THAT miss to Albion fans, team mates etc. :lolol:

His biography makes an interesting quick read. Especially the bit about when he rid not want to leave Rangers, despite Bamber offering to treble his wages.

A bit ironic at the present time.

He is a top bloke & he was up against a top keeper. He blew off a top do in Scotland to come down to the Withdean & always happy to support us unlike Lawrenson who always seems to be embarrassed to even admit to ever having played for us. Makes me mad.

The keeper is a good point, and it was mentioned this morning. Smith could have done better but he didn't miss it. Bailey saved it.

Gordon also mentioned half time in the replay. He said we weren't playing badly but were 3-0 down (which was true). The dressing room was like a morgue. No one spoke until Gordon asked "I wonder what the record defeat at wembley is?" That broke the ice. We conceded a fourth early on in the second half and the team concentrated on a damage limitation excercise.

GS was full of praise for the Amex and the number of Season Tickets sold. All nice to hear.

That's unfair, Lawro was kind enough to acknowlege our existance before the first league game at the Amex :moo:

Keeper to beat and a minute to go!

In the last minute of an important game, do you as a forward hit the ball hard and low near the keeper where he finds it hard to stop, but may accidentally sit on the ball. Or do you try and curl it wide of the keeper and inwards (with the instep, a skill I found difficult when I played but now found at County League standard?) and risk it hitting the post as the keeper is assumed to be aware of all the angles?

Your choice, what would you do? Which takes the most skill?

How does this apply to current and past players?

Mark Lawrenson admitting to loving his time at Brighton, in the 1980s:
"I loved Brighton as soon as I saw the place, bright, bustling and cosmopolitan, and the football club was on a high. They had just been promoted to the second division and everything was looking good... I defy anyone not to like living in Brighton. I could see myself staying there permanently long after my football career was over, that's how much I liked the place"
(The Autobiography)

Mark Lawrenson, admitting to loving his time at Brighton, in the 1990s:

Mark Lawrenson admitting to loving his time at Brighton, in the 2000s:
"Brighton was just so great. I'm sure everyone you've spoken to who went there has said the same thing. In terms of fun and everything it was just the best, apart from big Al occasionally going mental at us after games. It was a great time to be there with a great set of players and fantastic supporters."

Lawrenson has always spoken fondly of his time at the Albion, there is too much rewriting of history here. He is from Preston, won a number of trophies at Liverpool, so why expect him to be singing GOSBTS every five minutes?

Bailey didn't save it, the ball was kicked AT him & hit him

Maybe we could get Gordon Smith to be our new Chief Executive ???

My father in law still great mates with him and the 2 families often meet up(Smiths daughter lives in Brighton currently)

Anyway I said to him about mentioning the role to GS to my father in law who called him Sunday night. He hadn't heard about the role being available but mentioned they would love a move back down south and that he would contact someone he knew at the club to see what was happening.Could be interesting

Like it Ace!! Not looking too clever today unfortunately after that Panorama interview last night.

From Wiki-"In June 2011, Smith was appointed Director of football at Rangers by their new owner Craig Whyte, tasked with assisting new manager Ally McCoist. He left this role in February 2012, soon after the club entered administration."

Cant think TB would be too impressed with that on our former legend's CV!

It still seems incredible that so many people who should have known better, like Smith, were hoodwinked by Whyte.

He was DOF at Ibrox a different role to what he would do here or did at the SFA.

Do you think it was a coincidence him saying nice things about us on the telly, just after the announcement that MP was standing down?

Interesting point point Phil. Maybe more Ken Brown? Not so sure Gordon would be so good at new stadiums............. And Smith must build! :)

I can confirm that GS didn't know (well he said he didn't anyway and why would he lie to a mate)

When i have met him he genuinely does speak very postitive of his time at the Albion

Didn't he say the nice things after the announcment was made? No lies there, he would have known MP & KB had left by then.
