Goodwin faces punishment

Murray Goodwin faces a possible ban from the Western Australian cricket team for claiming Zimbabwe has a racist selection policy.
Goodwin played 19 Tests for Zimbabwe before opting for domestic cricket in Australia and England.

He said players of native descent had a distinct advantage compared with those from European backgrounds.

The player has been reported for an alleged breach of a Cricket Australia Code of Behaviour rule.

Professional cricketers in Australia are banned from making any detrimental public remarks.

Under the Code, they can be reprimanded, fined or banned for one match.

"You've got guys getting promoted because of their performances and other guys getting promoted because of colour," Goodwin said.

"It sounds really racist but in actual fact it's the truth and that's a sad state of affairs.

"These guys don't have to perform as well as the European guys to get a game."

Zimbabwe coach Geoff Marsh was adamant that black players in the touring squad fully deserved their spot.

"I am a selector and I can tell you the 16 guys here were chosen on merit," Marsh said.
