The Seagulls need a replacement for the departed Tomasz Kuszczak and have enquired about Butland.
The England under 21 international would be available on a season-long loan, as Stoke have two experienced keepers in Asmir Begovic and Thomas Sorensen.
Butland, 21, already has plenty of Championship experience following loan spells with former club Birmingham, Barnsley and Leeds
