A really enjoyable programme.
I’ve always liked Fred, and he has really gone up in my estimation.

And Adnan’s story. Wow.

I've coached some state senior school lads on the Chance to Shine scheme about 10 years ago - frecking hard work they all were too ...

Yes, commendable he's put up £25k of his own dosh too.

Keen to hear how this all unfolds 2-3 years down the road.

Agree it’s been good. There are lots of amazing youth coaches in various sports who don’t get the credit they deserve for helping kids from those sorts of backgrounds. But sadly I think there are fewer opportunities these days. My old man used to do a lot of football coaching, as well as being a scout leader, and his main motivation was exactly what you see in this program- helping kids find a useful way to spend their time and channel their energies. I still regularly get approached by middle aged men at Albion games who ask after him and tell me what a difference it made to their lives (my dad’s in his 80s now). But towards the end of his time doing it, my dad also started to complain that it was getting harder - more red tape, more distractions (especially technology). So really admire what Fred is doing.
