Worthing
France 7-0 up inside 37 minutes and Gibraltar down to 10 men. Think they're going to easily manage double figures tonight

13-0 now equals the highest score ever in a Euro qualifier when Germany went to San Marino in 2006.

Edit and now it's 14, a new record.

there really should be a seperate qualifying group for these "minor" nations. Let the winner qualify for the finals, give something to aim for. That way there would be meaningful games against similar standard teams, the winner would get a fantastic oportunity at a major finals.
It must be soul destroying to constantly loose by massive margins.

A lot of people mentioning the need for a pre-qualifying group for the worst teams do realise that’s partially the point of the Nation League? The problem is San Marino & Liechtenstein still finish on 0 points in those.

The shit teams are getting slightly better though. Luxembourg have 14 points, Moldova have 10 points, Kazakhstan could still qualify, Latvia won a game, Andorra drew twice, San Marino scored… twice!

I’m not sure a game where Gibraltar had a red card after 18 minutes against arguably the best international team is the world is what we should be basing the future of qualifying on tbh. They won their Nations League group in 20/21 so the same thing would have happened anyway.

The reason for introduction of Nation League was because clubs, supporters and media got fed up with players going of to meaningless friendlies so these were turned into a competition.

And yet England only beat Malta 2-0!
Likewise Italy. Ukraine only put one past them. Malta don't get tonked as often these days

I mean, it’s not. But even if it was, that doesn’t change the point I was making in reply to comments on this thread.

People are saying that the worst teams should be placed in pre-qualifying groups with the best either

A) advancing to the proper qualifying stage
B) advancing to the tournament directly.

As the Nations League already has the worst nations in one group it makes sense to use that as the benchmark. In which case the teams who would have qualified are Gibraltar (the team responsible for this thread) and Faroe Islands (who have one point).

The NL does actually offer 3 pathways to the EURO’s. As things stand, one of Greece, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg or Estonia will qualify for the Euros through the Nations Leagues bottom group. Unless Kazakhstan qualify through their Euro group, in which case they’ll be replaced by Azerbaijan.

If Greece don’t qualify then that means a brand new nation reaching a major tournament, ranked 120th, 118th, 87th or 98th in the world.

The other two pathways include Israel, Bosnia & Georgia too. So, as I said, the Nations League actually solves the issues people are complaining about. The best team on the planet beating 10 man Gibraltar shouldn’t be what we judge everything off.
