Anybody think that we looked so much better reverting to a back three.

I certainly think we get the best out of Reidy and Harding in wing back positions and allows us to play three 'central' midfielders in a position where we have a fair amount of options.

Didn't see the game yesterday but am inclinded to agree with you about the 3-5-2 formation. We don't have players who can dominate the midfield, particularly in the centre, so packing 5 across the middle makes good sense, it also makes it far harder for opponents to break through. That system seems to work well for us, particularly as most teams still stick to the traditional 4-4-2.

The 4-4-2 looked as solid against Reading and Coventry. What the 5-3-2 does is sacrifice our wide players like OGH and Leon and put the onus on Reid and Harding delivering the quality ball - that was a bit up and down yesterday to be honest. Leicester were the weaker opponents out of those three teams so it's hard to make big judgements on all this. There is a trade-off in whatever system you play and McGhee will rightly not hesitate to switch back if the opposition offers an incentive to do that, as Sunderland did.

Our major concern for the past 6 or 7 games has been conceeding goals to quote Brian Clough 'if you do not concede a goal you do not lose 5 more draws out of the recent defeats would have made us safe.

I think you have to make a distinction between those 6 or 7 games. Nine goals is 3 games between Stoke and Wigan is disastrous, 4 goals in 3 games in the Reading/Cov/Leicester games is getting there, particularly when you think 3 of those where the Coventry penalty decision, the Forster handball and yesterday's penalty's decision. I don't think we've defended badly in the last 4 games at all.

I think you have to discount Preston because of the 10 men.

True indeed - but if the opposition put the ball into our pen box and the ref blows and points to the spot [as they have done several times in recent weeks] we usually conceed ....
