Didn't see this mentioned anywhere but came across this story today. Pretty sad stuff:
Oct. 3 (Bloomberg) -- John Cerutti, a television broadcaster and former pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, died in his hotel room at age 44. Authorities believe he died of natural causes, and foul play isn't suspected.
Cerutti was scheduled to handle color commentary for Rogers Sportsnet during the Blue Jays' regular-season finale today against the New York Yankees. When he didn't show up for a morning production meeting, coworkers unsuccessfully tried to contact him at his hotel room.
Police officers and emergency service workers later entered the room and found him without any vital signs.
``This is a sad day for the Rogers family, as we've lost a distinguished member,'' Doug Beeforth, the president of Rogers Sportsnet, said in a statement. ``John's sudden and tragic passing is a real blow to all of us.''
Cerutti was drafted by the Blue Jays in the first round in 1981 and played for Toronto from 1985-1990 before spending his final season with the Detroit Tigers. He had a 49-43 career record with a 3.94 earned run average. He began his broadcasting career in 1997.
Cerutti is survived by his wife, Claudia, and their three children, Daniel, Nicole and Janine.
``It was an unbelievable shock,'' Blue Jays President Paul Godfrey said in a statement. ``It goes to show how unimportant wins and losses are at a time like this. We grew to love John not only as a player but as a person. He's going to leave a void.''
