When the big tournaments come along I am always interested in the mentality of the countries taking part. There are many stereotypes, which are occasionally challenged but generally hold true. Why do these things always happen?
The Germans play together well as a team, often way beyond the sum of their parts.
The Dutch fail miserably as a team, never quite fulfilling their undoubted potential due to falling out with each other.
The Italians don't play as flamboyantly as their characters would suggest, stifling the life out of games and then losing to an often controversial goal.
The Spanish never progress very far in a competition, always coming up against a team they don't know how to play against.
The English flattering to deceive and then losing gallantly after some kind of blunder
The French being very moody, losing their way completely if things don't go their way.
The Scandinavian countries always put up a tough fight, however limited their ability
Any others?
