I think the women of Afghanistan would appreciate the changes that have come about thanks to the allied troops going in and bringing about a tiny bit of democracy as a bi-product of being there.

you seriously think that females there prefer the westen troops there? you seriously think the west is putting "true democracy" there?

you are nieve or ignorant.

So in these words you are stating that you have respect for people who kill people, even though they may not agree with why they are killing them?

That Marxo, for me, is a seriously messed up mindset.

I don't like your mindset either, I don't need you to paraphrase my comments……..sigh

the apache helicopter - about £10m each, let alone the running costs.

"It has a customizable weapons loadout mounted on stub-wings for the role desired.[42] In addition to the 30-mm M230E1 Chain Gun, the Apache carries a range of external stores on its stub-wing pylons, typically a mixture of AGM-114 Hellfire anti-tank missiles, and Hydra 70 general-purpose unguided 70 mm (2.76 in) rockets.[61]"

Bollocks. I've just ordered a new Volvo V70 for delivery in March. Wish I'd gone for one of these now. Does the Apache have leather seats and tiptronic gear-shift?

I think you are very naive to what it was like for women under the Taliban compared to now.

So yes, I do think a lot of Afghani women will think the arrival of the trops and their subsequent increase in personal freedoms was a very good thing.

On Thursday, Congress took an unprecedented step to ensure women’s meaningful participation in the stability and democratization of their nation. In passing the 52nd National Defense Authorization Act, they authorized funds specifically for women in the Afghan forces, designating a minimum of $25 million to bolster their ranks. With women comprising only one percent of the Afghan National Police and 0.3 percent of the Afghan National Army, the consequences of not doing so would be dire.

Without female security officers, Afghan women will not be allowed to vote. Most voter registration and polling stations are sex-segregated. Female security personnel are needed to staff women-only polling stations, which remain closed if there are no women to fill the role. There’s a lot riding on the April 2014 presidential election—not least, protections for women’s rights. The best way to maintain the hard-earned gains of Afghan women is to elect a president who will uphold them. And the best way to elect a president of that profile is to enable women to vote.

Quite sure they prefer them to the Taliban and prefer a system where they at least have a chance to have a vote.

Well be out next year and the Taliban can go back to shooting schoolgirls in the face for wanting to go to school. Cool.

Look at it the right way, and the problem vanishes. Besides, religious freedom, and political self-determination, take many forms.

Just don't watch that part of the news, and contemplate the money saved instead.

Or more accurately, add it to the other parts of the news where one doesn't watch and contemplates the money saved instead.

Climate, for example...

I guess some do come here tho for a bit of escape. I know I do when I am at work and need 5 mins away for the norm, jump on NSC for a little giggle or team news or general discussion. If it wasnt an escape we'd all use our real names.

I'm sure I noted the word 'forum' there

not from your point of view maybe....but not everyone agrees with you.

Its one thing going there, another to glorify a machine of murder that costs millions to the taxpayer. But hey, Sibble down the road gets £50 on benefits or a polish does a hard work plumbing and there is uproar. Got to admire the sun, bbc, and mail - really done a job on some people.

Yes, let's move away from the propaganda and read al-jazeera... :lolol:
