The Wheatsheaf and The Hairy Hounds were the only two pubs I used to visit once I started to wind down my visits to the town centre.....glad to see you had the good sense to miss JB's off the list :) (had to spend three years being forced to meet friends in that awful hellhole of a place)

edit: although if we're talking out of town centre pubs then maybe The Vines, even if it wasn't what it once was, still just a nice and easy stroll down the road :)

Where the Downview!!

Not forgetting the Sir Timothy Shelley (Wetherspoons)!!

from that list the Wheatsheaf would be my choice, as due to only being 18 for a month i have had little chance to try some fo the other fine establishments in Worthing, whilst most of my drinking was spent in the downview due to having friends who liked it and would not go anywhere else due to them not being arsed to walk further for a drink....having said that £1.99 for Harveys is probably the best thing downview's got...and interactive jukebox machine

The only pub I know in Worthing is the one that used to be the church(Cloisters?), I went there once about 15 years ago and it was horrible then, a veritable chavalanche. Is it still open, and the same?

Now Bar 10, full of 30-something cokeheads, not that busy....

You missed off The Vine and George and Dragon in Tarring. Both very good pubs.

How could that place be on a list of FAVOURITE pubs? Maybe on a list of 'top ten pubs to get threatened in by a pool cue' perhaps? Or 'top places where you are least likely to get anything decent to drink'?

I lived near that place for over 10 years and occasionally visted it. Each time was sufficient to remnind me why I walked the extra mile to go to The Vine or George & Dragon.

Lived on Tarring Road for a year, never even considered going in there. Looks pretty unfriendly.

Both used to be very good pubs. The G&D has changed hands again so will be interesting to see if they can regain lost trade from when Gary Cox had it. The Vine was my local for years but went downhill when John Chambers sold it and Hall & Woodhouse have ruined the place. I went in for the first time in ages a few weeks back - 10pm on a Saturday night and only three other people in there.

My 'favourite' part in the Vines downfall was when they had a couple running it where one was an alcoholic and his partner an aggorophobic. The staff turned up one evening to find the place still closed and it turned out the alcholic had got pissed and passed out and the aggorophobic wouldn't go near the door to open up:laugh:
