:angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry:

Is anybody watching this dumbed down purile trying to pass it self of as education nonsense on BBC at the moment.

Is this what I pay my licence fee for ?

"Bin The Biscuits!", "Eat More Fruit and Veg" - er thanks, the soundbite diet with some very very annoying incidental music.

Cheap nonsense, I hate this kind of TV.

.. and I hate celebrity doctors. DO YOUR JOB - THERE ARE ENOUGH TV PRESENTERS, THEY HOLD AUDITIONS EACH YEAR ON BIG BROTHER !!!!

.. and I've had enough of the general public on tv as well.

Now there's a member of the general public, er.. no actually she's a "local news" presenter. Not trying to get a network job and a bit of exposure then ? .. oh and lose a bit of weight on the way.

Now she's pretending to be a teacher, like those ANNOYING acting bits they do on DIY SOS !!!!!!!!

The BBC have already done something like with Diet Trials. Which incidently was very interesting and from which (using the data that was collected) American scientist discovered how the Aitkins diet works..

Anyway - patronising dumbed down crap from the BBC.

Christ the presenter just said "Oh and here comes the science bit" - like she was actually apologising for saying something complicated.

Im watching this too. terrible tv. I cant understand all this atkins diet and stuff- staying fit is simple.. eat well (some junk food but not too often) and EXCERSISE. thats the only reason why kids are so much fatter these days- not enough excersise. i worked in the states for the summer- the state some of the kids i was working with was appalling purely down to lack of excersise!

I understand the exercise argument, but would say that compared to few other countries in Europe a lot of people here eat crap as well. Just got back from Southern spain and ate fresh food and fish for a fortnight - feel great. (also did a lot of walking has to be said)

Did anyone catch that Aitkins diet thing last year. Documentary showed how American scientists took the BBC "diets trials" data and very quickly established that the Aitkins diet group lost weight because.. and wait for it

THEY ATE LESS CALORIES !!!!!!!!

Basically, your body starts to feel slightly sick with the meaty fatty food and you eat less. Yes of course it works, but its not a very balanced diet.

My opinion? It's processed food that's the problem. Just read the excellent "What's on your plate" book, which the point amongst others that it took 2,000 years to perfect the process of making bread, then with modern baking techniques they through it out the window.

Yeast intolerence may be due to the fact that most bread is fermented a whole lot quicker than it is with traditional techniques, and in order to stop bread collapsing (with quick modern rising) and to increase its shelf life they bung in loads of processed fats.

Of course, more exercise but alot of these processed fats (hydrogenated?) your body just can't burn off and break them down. It's this very nature of them that makes them perfect for intensive food production.

No wonder that people lose weight after stopping eating bread, if you buy it from a supermarket its a high fat food...

When it comes to kids the parents have gotta take more responsibility and make sure their children eat well and excersise properly. I just find it appalling the state of a lot of kids thesedays, but its not their fault its what their parents have brought them up on.

But youre right, in this country as well as the states its down to the amount of processed food about- people arent excersising as much now too which is why there's been such a dramatic increase in the average weight, but the government have gotta find a way too reduce the cost of good food because at the moment for the less wealthy its so much easier and cheaper to eat poor food.
Its interesting, in america they're developing the reverse now when it comes to girls- so many young american girls are now becoming too thin or anorexic because theyre so concerned about their weight.

Interesting your point about bread though- never new that before!

I've stopped buying non organic meat as of this week. I've been shocked as to what goes into the other stuff.

Its more expensive but I'm buying less. I've found that organic mince (beef and lamb) is actually quite cheap.

One of the negative aspects with the general trend towards eating less red meat and more chicken is that cheap chicken is full of crap. Mostly water (not harmful) but full of other crap (usually protein) to keep the water in. I could tell you how they create these "proteins" but you probably don't want to know.

I guess everybody knows the reality of chicken nuggets ? Not a scare story, but even organic chicken nuggets are packed with liquidised chicken skin.

It's the only way to keep the meat moist and every manufacturer uses that method. I'm quite partial to bit of crispy chicken skin - but I don't want to eat boiled and liquidised chicken skin especially when I'm told its not there.

Legally chicken breast skin is part of a chicken breast. 100% Organic Chicken breast nuggets contain skin to some degree.

The only reason nuggets exist is because some guy worked out that liquidised chicken skin keeps nuggets moist.

Not for me I'm afraid.

Organic chicken is expensive - so that's becoming my treat food like fillet steak. It also tastes fantastic.
