On Saturday Paul Jiggins wrote a page about fans copying songs. So then I hear Coventry fans singing marching on together which is a Leeds song. Its not right, there are some songs that you can't copy.

Unless you're going to surprise me here, I have a sneaky feeling what you think was Marching On Together was in fact the Sky Blue song, sung by Cov fans since 1962, lyrics written by Jimmy Hill to the tune of the Eton Boating Song.

edna is correct is was not marching all together, sounded more like 'on the ball city' which is sung by teams such as Birmingham CITY and Norwich CITY.

On The Ball City is only sung by Norwich and NOT by Birmingham, their song is Keep Right On (To The End Of The Road). It also sounds nothing like Marching On Together which, was sung a few times by the Sky Blues faithful on Saturday.

As I said previously, they have been singing it for years but have no idea why.

Albion & England forever.

Sky Blue anthem

The club song was written in 1962 by manager Jimmy Hill and director John Camkin. It was launched at the home game with Colchester on 22 December 1962 (a match abandoned at half-time because of fog) with the words printed in the programme. It quickly became popular with supporters during the epic FA Cup run in 1963 when the then Third Division team reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup before losing to eventual winners Manchester United. To the tune of the Eton Boating Song;

Original:
Let's all sing together
Play up, Sky Blues
While we sing together
They will never lose
Proud Posh or Pompey
Oysters or anyone
They shan't defeat them
They'll fight 'til the game is won!
City! City! City!

Current:
Lets all sing together
Play up, Sky Blues
While we sing together
We will never lose
Tottenham or Chelsea
United or anyone
They shan't defeat us
We'll fight 'til the game is won!
City! City! City!

During the game! For some reason Cov have been singing Marching On Together for years but I have no idea why as for me and probably everyone else, this is a Leeds song.

It is indeed a Leeds song, which is why if you google "Coventry City" and "Marching On Together", you won't get any answers that don't involve games against Leeds.

I am 100% certain Coventry don't sing it, it's just the lyrics and sound of the Sky Blue song that have confused you. Me, I thought they were singing "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" for years until I worked it out.

If we're talking about the game at the Amex, then it was 100% the Sky Blue song they were singing.

Jiggins claimed no-one else should sing Newcastle United's Blaydon Races, which made me laugh. Well, smile, at least.

Was definitely not the Leeds song. Trust me, as someone who hears their fans sing it more than most on here! I personally hate it, their fans only seem to have the one song!
