While I did the utterly enthralling topic of housing quality in Portsmouth for my Geography A-Level coursework, my brother has decided to deviate from the list provided by his sixth form and complete his coursework on the proposed community stadium at Falmer.

To contribute to his coursework he has devised a questionnaire for fans of the Albion and Falmer residents. He has asked me to put the questionnaire on here, and I know he will greatly appreciate it if anyone can spare a couple of minutes to complete his questionnaire.

Q.4 On a scale of 1-10 (1 being the best, 10 the worst), how would you rate the following?
(A) Attractiveness of the area - 7
(B) Ability of local transport to cope with the stadium - i think the proposals include improving the station so - 3
(C) Impact of development on local ecosystems/wildlife - 1
(D) Impact of development on local landscape - 2
(E) Suitability of Falmer for the stadium - 3

Q.5 Are you in favour of the proposed stadium at Falmer? - YES

<<<<<IF YES, GO TO Q.6……….IF NO GO TO Q.10>>>>>>>>>

Q.6.a Elaborate on how you think fans will travel to Falmer for matches? Away fans probably by train & coaches, home by train, park & ride and probably a few by car
Q.6.b. How would you travel to Falmer? train

Q.7. Why do you believe the benefits of the stadium out-weigh the impact on the local landscape? aside from the fact that it's the only site for a stadium that the club NEEDS to survive; the impact on the landscape will be negligible due to the fact that the proposed site is a dump and the stadium will be largely hidden by the contours of the land. Also, an undertaking such as the construction and running of the stadium will create many jobs in the area (also not forgetting the train station upgrades and university buildings), helping to regenerate the economy of east brighton - something the council want to do. It will also bring consdierable benefits to the community such as providing activities and education for children, which is likely to result in; amongst other things a fall in crime in the area

Q.8. What is it about the current plan that you particularly like? A modern football ground to call our own. Aside from that as the fans' perspective, it will also boost the local economy and is likely to result in reduced crime etc. as detailed above from the numerous community activities, which will in fact be beneficial to local residents

Q.9. What measures would you suggest to make the stadium more acceptable to locals? Demonstrate the positive effects the stadium will have on Falmer (and indeed B&H as a whole) in terms of economy, employment, crime etc. and also show that the noise, light and such generated by the stadium on matchdays will be negligible due to its location and modern design. And make sure the transport strategy is efficient and works, keeping both sets of fans away from the 'village' thereby minimising any possible disruption

(E) Suitability of Falmer for the stadium 7

Q.5 Are you in favour of the proposed stadium at Falmer?

Yes

Q.6.a Elaborate on how you think fans will travel to Falmer for matches?

I will be dropped off and collected, however i assume Train and buses will be the preferred option as Car parking will be prohibitively expensive

Q.6.b. How would you travel to Falmer? car

Q.7. Why do you believe the benefits of the stadium out-weigh the impact on the local landscape?

I do not believe that anything built on downland can improve the landscape as witnessed by the sprawl that is the Sussex and Brighton University, however, I do believe that it is the best option available

Q.8. What is it about the current plan that you particularly like?

The fact that we have a ground that we can call our own and the financial benefits from having a ground. Secondly, with a larger capacity it will make it easier for floating fans to turn up on the day.

Q.9. What measures would you suggest to make the stadium more acceptable to locals?

I dont think there is anything that can be done. Perhaps sealing off Falmer village on match days seems attractive but if I were a resident I would not be that happy about it. There will always be a winner and loser, in this case the loser will be the residents ( assuming it is agreed)

Q.7. Why do you believe the benefits of the stadium out-weigh the impact on the local landscape? The local landscape is dominated by university buildings and a transport links (dual carraigeway and railway), the stadium will raise the level of quality of architectire in the area and stand out like a beacon for Sussex and the SOuth Downs area.

Q.8. What is it about the current plan that you particularly like? Sustainable transport proposals

Q.9. What measures would you suggest to make the stadium more acceptable to locals? These locals have no sense of desire, this country was built on it's passion for advancement, development and ingenuity. The best solution to make this acceptable to the locals is to compulsory purchase all their homes, let them move somewhere else and build a new Sussex County Cricket ground adjacent to the stadium. Make Sussex a centre for national sporting pride and excellence.
