Falmer and "Transport Accessibility"

Just a quickie (maybe longer)...

Aside the problems with granting permission to plough through other people's land (THV) or set up a stadium on a site of outstanding natural beauty, what is the criteria that BHA are using to define good transport accessibility?

I cannot recall that many grounds with particularly good transport accessibility, especially newer grounds that have been built on the outskirts of town such as Reading, Stoke, Hull etc. Transport links are put in place regardless of local parking and railway stations. Shuttle buses from the centre of town and from local rail stations/bus stations enable fans to get there no problems. If you ever see Cardiff City play, you'll see the immense amount of coaches that transport supporters to and from the game.

I'm intruiged to know what the guidelines are for transport access to Falmer/any other site considered?

What about other locations that are described as "not suitable" because of the transport access to the site...?

The owners of the train station (confirm SRA or franchised at all?) may choose to close the station on matchdays due to trouble if built at Falmer (as has been threatened in the past i.e. Walsall)... so doesn't that leave everyone up the creek?

Hmm, the transport links argument is a strange one. The thing holding us back is the lack of a decent Park and Ride site on the outskirts of town, there just isn't anywhere big enough to put all the cars so a train station becomes a very big chip in this particular poker game.

Already got the pre-match ritual planned. Major Harveys session in the Open House (Springfield as was), walk twenty metres (yards as was) to London Road station to be whisked to Falmer station in about five minutes flat. Gentle stroll to the Community Stadium, followed by 'just the one' in one of the many bars or bistros serving a wide selection of Real Ales and Continental Lagers. Marvellous.

Sure I read somewhere that as part of the Falmer thing, a P&R was being set up from Brighton Racecourse? Hope so as living in Freshfield Road, that'll be perfick.

Miscellaneous facts:

Withdean (at the start) had 14% travelling by train. Probably about 12% now.

Reasonable for Falmer at the start is at least 19%. i.e over 3000.

The plan for the new Wembley is 65% by train.

The density of housing and transport chaos in Brighton is not as bad as Wembley, but it ain't that far off.

Where is your evidence to support this 14.2% drop in fans travelling by train? Also, 19% of capacity at Falmer would be 4,340 - whatever 'reasonable' means. Is it possible to make a direct correalation the housing and transport issues between the suburb of Wembley an the conurbation of Brighton & Hove? How do you do it?

Or are you just barmy?

FFS - do NOT stand up and defend your plans for the mythical lost paradise of Pende at the Inquiry because when you have finished a: you will make yourself look a twat and b: I will make you look like a radish.

Seem to recall a survey some time back that concluded we have the highest percentage of fans, of any club in England, that travelled to matches by public transport.
