Having had previous good advice from NSC I thought I'd try my luck again ...
I've got to paint part of the outside of the house, specifically the window sills (which seem to be made of some sort of concrete-y stuff) and some walls. These have been painted before, several time by the looks of it. In some places multiple layers of paint are peeling off, but other places are ok. I should add that the underlying stone, concrete, whatever is sound, i.e. not flaking, cracked, etc.
Now what I was planning to do was this:
1 - Buy new paint.
2 - Scrape off all the old flaky paint, but not completely remove all the old layers. (Don't see how I can actually).
3 - Slap on new paint.
4 - Go down the pub.
Point 4 I have no problems with. But I'm slightly worried that where not all the old paint has come off, there will be very shallow 'indentations' where some of the new paint has gone on top of the old paint, and some has gone straight onto the concrete. Can this be avoided? Also should I use a primer or undercoat?
I HAVE tried googling this, but couldn't find any useful sites. All answers gratefully received.
