Not something I make a habit of but whilst in the boozer earlier this evening the conversation amongst the locals turned to pub barrings which got me thinking.

Now whilst I consider myself welcome in EVERY ONE of Brighton's fine drinking holes there are a few in Winchester from when I was a student in which I was told in no uncertain terms never to return. Mostly it was after having been caught doing drugs (NOT BIG OR CLEVER KIDS) but there was one pub where I was barred for robbing from the till. Now this needs a bit of explanation as I had previously worked in said pub when they decided to quite unjustly dock my wages after some customer kicked off about ripping her skirt on a chair that was poorly upholstered. I protested that this was clearly nothing to do with me but the landlady just laughed and pointed out that I was a cash in hand part time student and if I wanted to complain to a union I was welcome. Instead I simply turned up when she wasn't there, emptied the till while the barman on duty was out having a fag and left a note saying that if she wished to complain about it then she was welcome to take it to a tribunal.

She didn't.

But have YOU ever been barred from a boozer? And if so WHY?

I was barred from 'Fuzzy Ducks' in Oxford. I made the grand mistake of making my face known to the arsehole bouncers. It was the big night in Oxford and I was excluded off and on for two years. :tantrum:

All over a sodding beer tap trophy and elbowing a bouncer.

I don't think I was completely barred, but I was thrown out of the old Rose and Crown in Crowborough once. Which is quite an achievement since I've been teetotal all my life. In fact I am very proud of that incident.

Skinning up (NOT BIG OR CLEVER KIDS) in The Strawberry outside St. James Park in Newcastle season 1990-91. Well there was bugger all else to do as the game was cancelled because of snow.

not since I was a teenager trying to use fake ID back in the early 80's - The Smack in Leigh-On-Sea. Got away with it many times but then got busted. Is it being barred though really if you are underage anyway?

The Roebuck in Oxford in 1980, for, well, not much really - walking over a table to get to the bog rather than asking my mates to move out the way.

And some other dive pub in northern Oxford I forget the name of, around the same time, because we were playing 'musical origami' with the metal beer trays... You had to bend the trays into different shapes, and when the song you were singing ended you had to say what you'd made. A good game I thought, but the landlord didn't agree. I seem to remember vaguely that I fell in the river that same night on the way home and lost my watch.

Yeh, back in the day I got caught a couple of times in the toilets with substances I shouldn't have had - oops. Seems like a very long time ago. I will obviously deny all knowledge of this post when I become Prime Minister

I got barred from the Hungry Years (is it still there?) for sneaking in a bottle of cider. I had a stand up row with the the owner, a Hispanic lady, who remembered me when I tried to re-enter about 18 months later, even though I had cut my previously very long hair!

I recall me and a bunch of mates being asked to leave the then Railway Tavern in Portslade sometime during the 1990 World Cup. We MUST have been very bad.
