Events you've bunked off to watch the Albion instead

What important (or maybe not so important in your eyes) moments in life have you skipped in order to go to the Albion?

I've skived off a family wedding  To be fair, the game was a relegation six pointer, I think, though I must confess I didn't mention that once I sidled furtively into the reception and got stuck into the canapes.

I also missed a vitally important work do once (not in my current job, oh great and wise boss), having already asked unsuccessfully for the day off in advance, therefore had to pull a sickie in order to attend the last game of one particular season. Not sure how I got away with that one, especially as I was cheerfully back at work the next day, having seen us save ourselves by the skin of our teeth.

Anyone got any real tales of shame on this front? Missed the birth of your first child? Grandparent's funeral? Exams? The final of X Factor?

The important question I guess is: did you TELL the people whose events you were missing that you were going to the Albion instead, or did you make up some shameful excuse?

For the wedding, I'm sorry to say I told the family I was working, lucky my, er, shift finished at about ten to five that Saturday afternoon so I was still able to make the reception :lolol:

Mates stag do in Amsterdam, decided seeing the Albion get promoted at Peterborough was far more important than getting stoned and seeing some tits.

When I was about 9 /10 years old Terry Tribe from Worthing and myself bunked off of school (Holy Tinity) and went up to The Den to watch a cup replay we had no money so jumped on the trains and then cried at the gate saying that Terry had lost his wallet and some kind Brighton supporter paid for us to get in and bought us some chips.

Drove a lorry from Aberdeen to Leatherhead via The Goldstone to watch the cup replay that we los 4- 0 against Walton & Hersham.

Borrowed a lorry from the same firm to get home from work on a Friday night then drove it down to Hereford to see Peter Wards debut and filled the back up with a load of fans from The Clifton in Worthing whose minibus had broken down. Was affectionately known as 'The banana lorry' by Nicky Turner etc.

Done some stupid things to watch BHA but dont regret any of them and can just wait for Falmer and our rise up the league.

These people just don't understand do they?

Do I want to listen to some old vicar wittering on about love and devotion, or do I want to demonstrate those emotions in PERSON, by missing a family occasion in order to show my love and devotion to the Albion, specifically the Albion avoiding relegation?

I also skived off a supposed date last year to go to Millwall  Didn't tell him that either, I gave a quite appalling excuse. The relationship didn't last :lolol:

ANYONE who gets married during the football season is a halfwit.
As for those who plan their nuptials during a World Cup / Euros....I have not the words.

Brighton College school athletics match for the Bristol Rovers promotion game at the Goldstone in the late 1980s.

I was out injured with a strained calf muscle and couldn't compete in either the 800 or 1500m.

All went well until the Athletics coach caught a fleeting glimpse of me haring onto the pitch at the end of the game on the television highlights later that evening.

It came as little surprise that I was fully recovered from the injury by the time of the next games lesson.

I told school once my mum had died and I had to go to her funeral. As I was at boarding school and I told them I wouldn’t be back until the following day I had nowhere to stay that night. So me and some mates got hammered and slept in Gatwick airport for the night. It was the day of the famous Wilkins last-minute free kick past Ipswich’s Phil Parkes to qualify for the play-offs in 1991. It was my last year at the school and when she came to pick me up on the final day there were a few choice comments, I can tell you.
