We have been let down big time

Football team get to the quarters and feebly lose
Cricketers are a disgrace
Henman is crap
Athletes performances before the Olympics are appauling
The England rugby get thrashed down under by sheep rearers and then a nation of convicts

I am turning into Gareth Glover

What a load of old arse

I liken England Cricket to last years Sussex side:

England = Great in Tests but Crap in One dayers
Sussex = Great in Matches but Crap in One dayers

that is all

I blame the national curriculum for making kids do maths and science etc rather than PE for 5 hours a day :jester:

What about this year's Sussex side CARBBERS?

I'm with AL on this one, whenever I'm down I think of the day out in Cardiff.

Let's face it, we're not the best but we're not bad. Imagine being German or Spanish. Or from Slovakia.

Just think of THAT penalty and the marvellous scenes afterwards. It still feels great.

Alternatively go and listen to 'I'm the Urban Spaceman' by the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band.

#I'm the urban spaceman baby here's the twist, Iiiii don't exist#

Sussex, by the sea
we are poor nationally at most sports because its not been on any governments agenda ever . . .until it is (like it is in Aus) we'll only ever have the very occaisional blip of success.

given the national feel good factor of any victory you do wonder why.

god help us if had a real war, we've turned into a spineless parody of ourselves when it comes to a challenge and we'd loose to an uprising from the Isle of Wight !

Yes, and aren't we good at sports that involve either seawater or horses? And breaking plates with shotguns? Also surely we could win stuff like Celebrity Log rolling or World's Fattest Man?

I'm currently in training for the Worlds Fattest Man Championships. Double chilliburger with cheese tonight from Porkys, while I watch the match.

Put your money on for next year - at this rate, there'll be no stopping me

English Football - Team gets to the quarter finals in most major tournament, maybe that is our level. we have no devine right to expect more

English Cricket - The test side is probably the second best in the world at the moment with lots of promise (Harmison, Anderson, Strauss & Jones) Admittedly one day side is a shambles and needs a re-think

English Rugby - We are still World Champions. we were comprehensively beaten by two re-built extremly fired up sides in the middle of their season, whilst most of our playes were just finishing a 12 month season including six flights to and from down under. With players such as Wilkinson & Robinson returning plus the emergence of the likes of Abbot, Waters, Voyce we will soon be challenging at the very top again.

Sorry for the long post but i dont see that as a bad position overall

You are not far off there. The PC brigade are starting to teach children that it is bad to be competitive and that the taking part that is more important than the winning. With that being taught to our 7 and 8 year olds where are the future winners going to come from?

I have been in Ireland for over a year and you would be amazed by the skills in gaelic football and hurling from girls and boys aged 6 up. Winning is everything and this gives a little clue why Ireland tends to punch more than it's weight in sport.

Across the pond
Let's just go all American where even loosers gets a prize.
There must be a "bowl" for every four universities in college football, 12 MLS teams in a league, and eight of them make the play offs.
I assisted with some football coaching at a small college here a while ago. They were athletic yet lazy and total pants in all other departments. The ruling was you had to finish a session with a positive, so I told em "Nice boots" and f***ed off.
