I hear so many negatives about English support in the sporting world but I really think we are some of the best supporters of our sportmen and woman anywhere on this planet.

The support For Ricky Hatton was awesome on saturday night and at Wimbledon this evening the crowd really got behind Tim Henman.

Our cricket grounds have been pretty much full for the recent tests against the Windies and the atmostphere at Twickers is superb on most occasions.

Even the athletics crowd were cheering on our ladies on sunday to the max.

And we`ve stopped making monkey noises at football matches...........

Very pleased to see that you think that is a good thing. Now this is a question I've never really had answered by you BNP types - how can you possibly support England at football (and to a lesser extent, cricket) when the team contains what the BNP would describe as non-indigenous people, i.e. the very people you want to get rid of? The England U21 team for example is choc-a-block with darkies, so how do you manage to resolve your support for England with your support for the BNP?

I'm not having a 'PC-pop' at you, I'm genuinely interested.

Brovian I have never supported the BNP and have never wanted to get rid of non-indiginous people from these shores.

You may be mistaking me for someone else.

Its teachers and politically correct folk I cannot stand.

I thought the support for Henman last night was f***ing appalling. cheering people's mistakes and constantly going "come on tim" when it goes quiet is not really in the sporting spritit of things

I thought they were cheering points won by Henman rather than his opponents mistakes. Lets face it 80 % of points are decided by mistakes (failure to get the ball back over the net and in )

Fair comment, and my apologies for slandering you. I suppose I should have known when you said you disapproved of the monkey noises. If you were in the BMP (Bernard Manning Party) you would probably have said that they were 'just a bit of a laugh'.

i love it when you see the old biddy's going for it in the crowd. it made me chuckle seeing a couple of 'em doing the henman fist clench like it was actually THEM that had just won the point! some young girl looked like she was going to wet her pants when it got to match point (something that only happens to the old fogies once a year when wimbledons on)

I generally laugh at any joke if its funny................. Manning or not, and even found some of the really sick jokes on a thread yesterday funny but making monkey noises I would struggle with.

I mentioned it only because of the Eastern European fans of late.

But if Brighton were playing say Derby in the FA cup, and we went ahead courtesy of a comedy own goal which had nothing to do with a Brighton player, you would still celebrate, no? I don't really see the difference.

And this quiet thing... I've never really understood why some sports demand complete silence for things, when people like footballers and rugby players are meant to perform with loads of noise/cheering/abuse coming from the stands.

I suppose in those sports you have mention the action is intense when going where as in football there a large sections of play when nothing happens.

That's something the Americans have been doing at the US Open for years.

Cheering a player's mistakes, especially double faults, is pretty poor.
To top it all, HEN struggles to stay in the game despite all that demoralisation of his opposition.

As for the jeering and wanker signs when an opposing player misses a penalty or an easy tap-in, that just shows the bad attitude that pervades football supporting. It didn't used to be that way, but going back to before hooliganism and the cynicism that exists worldwide.

Maybe it's an outlet for testosterone, mild aggression? If it lets off steam and saves it being unloaded in everyday life, then the Romans certainly saw the point in it.

i'm bitter every day.

i support both england and brighton. i was born in england, and my dad is a brighton fan. but i choose to follow the football teams. there is a difference between picking a team to follow in sporting competition and being proud of your nation.

it makes no sense to be proud of something over which you had no control. i could not have chosen otherwise, so how can i have pride in any choice i made or work i've done?

nationalists often fail to see this.

Ok so you think that because you didn't get to choose your country of origin then we shouldn't be proud of it?

I would diagree with that. Despite what a few neanderthals and far lefties would think this nation is by and large made up of hugely tolerant indivduals who work hard, have a high respect for each other and fight for others. That we have such a population makes me proud to be British. That's not though down to the Government thats down to each and every member of this nation (all of whom had no choice about where they were born) and how they are raised and nutured.
