BBC2 now. Good programme.

Just seen Maradona's handball goal again. Not sure why he didn't just head the ball. He would probably still have scored. :tosser:

Not matter what Shilton needed a taxi to get to him - bloody slow of his line.

Can't argue with Maradonas 2nd goal, IMHO about the best goal ever

We should have had a penalty.

How did their goal go in?

How did Waddle's shot not go in?

Platt's header was not offside.

Good to see Pete Davies on the programme.

His book on Italia '90, All Played Out, is the best football book ever written.

FACT.

You are absolutely spot on with that particular observation Wozza. A superb book, I've read it a couple of times.

Shilton was to blame for the 1st, although Steve Hodge's clearance was one of the worst ever !!!! That's it Steve, just hoof it straight up in the air.

As for the second  I can :censored: ing argue with it. Watch for the foul on Hoddle immediately before the fat, gun-wielding coke-addict collects the ball. Attrocious foul. As for what happened afterwards ... did the defender (Fenwick?) get the last touch? Does that make it the greatest own goal ever?

Jesus, sour grapes.

How can you watch that run and not marvel at it. It is amazing.

little fat dago greaseball runs around a dazed defence still stretched by being one corrupt ref goal down, and they even had to foul Hoddle to get the ball?

The 2nd goal was utter SHIT, and I would like very much to tell Dago myself and shove that coke spoon right up his nasal column into his frontal lobe.

Other than that, no hard feelings

But Steve Hodge will get the last laugh (eventually) because he got Maradona's shirt after the game - keeps it in some top-security safe apparently

Back to the Germany game - it was just so shocking when Pearce missed - he was the penalty king. Once that happened and Waddle shuffled his way forward - I knew it was lost.

Shilton should never have been playing though. Another example of going on too long with a keeper. There was no spring in his step for the goal, and they were not all perfect penalties - two of them were savable, and he even went the right way. Should have stayed at home with Tina.

Who were the other keepers? Woods?

Pearce's penalty was shocking. You can't just hit it down the middle, the keeper is alwasy likely to block it with his legs. If you must blast it down the middle, at least put some height on it.

Never realised how close Waddle's penalty was. It was almost the best ever!

Could have been Woods. Anyone would have done.

Interesting that the Gernams didn't fancy the penalties - the stereotype is that want penalties because they practice them so much.

Also that was quite an England team, but they were very poor in the knock-out stages.

I think it's brilliant how we just can't let these things lie, even nearly 20 years after the Maradona goals, everyone still hates him. Watching the England v Germany thing last night, I still got really angry at the Germany defender making a meal out of Gazza's challenge, still thought "lucky b*stards" when they scored and when Waddle hit the post.

Gazza's challenge was worthy of a booking, even though he over reacted. May even be close to a red these days.

In that whole world cup we won only one game in normal time. And that was against the minnows from Egypt.

The Germans spent the entire tournament diving and feigning injury. I think that cheating on that scale is far worse than a mis-timed tackle.

They showed a "tackle" by Pearce in the first half - he didn't look to touch the bloke, but he rolled over and needed the physio. They were a bunch of cheating bastards.
