England were not a disgrace last night.

You must give credit to Portugal. They are a quality side, especially going forward, with world class wingers in Figo and Ronaldo, quality playmakers in Maniche and Deco, a decent forward in Nuno Gomes and a bit of quality on the bench (Rui Costa, Simao). Half the players are Porto who are, as we know, Euro Champions.

Therefore, to come as close as we did means we gave them a decent game.

I think that our weaknesses were all exposed by the quality of the oppostion:

1. Indifferent goalkeeping.
2. Reserve centre-back exposed.
3. Poor technique and passing.
4. Lack of leadership.
5. No option wide left.
6. No real quality on the bench.

Very good point. Looking along the subs bench last night, there was no one you thought "Yeah, get him on, he'll turn it around"

I remember the days when Sheringham would come on if needed and the team was lifted.

Agreed, there is no-ine on the bench to inspire!

We'll have to agree to disagree on this then (and Marshy).

.

Yep looks that way respect your opion thought as ever

i can see why you are pissed off as much as i was gutted the big time players where not there but we tried without them

the worse thing is pound for pound we where so much better than them but that was torn up and thrown out to a lesser side which where allowed to play.

i still believe its the lose mentality that swings it we just cant think we will win that penalty shoot out and then we dont

I would beg to differ - they are not that good a side - Costinha and Maniche are pretty run of the mill players, their goalkeeper has a reputation for dropping clangers like ours, their defenders are largely unproven outside the PFD, and Nuno Gomes is only an average striker IMHO. Figo is aging and has been disappointing - I would only take Ronaldo from their side into ours, we performed crap and deserved to go out.
