f*** the "hard luck" stories. Yes, that goal in the 90th should have been allowed, and it is a DISGRACE that it was disallowed. But that would have completely ignored that fact that Portugal absolutely played us off the park tonight.

What the f*** happened to our midfield ? Lampard and Scholes could not find a white shirt to save their lives, Beckham was not involved, and Gerrard looked f***ed from the word go. We were ABYSMAL tonight, and I am f***ing angry. We were overrun by a pretty average Portugal side. England have let us down, big time.
Only Cole and Campbell looked like the players they are supposed to be, although Owen / Vassell did the best they could with the utter SHITE they were dealt with all night from the rest of the crap that was masquerading as a midfield.

The Rooney substitution was an irrelevence. The team just did not function as a unit from the word go - the passing was frankly embarassing at times.

No doubt the tabloids will focus on the travesty of the disallowed goal, but that really is a smokescreen. We got the perfect start against oppostition who, man for man, we should have been capable of overturning. And yet the whole match turned into a "HEROIC" reguard action from a match we were in a position to have controlled, and WON, at a canter.

Aside from Owen and Vassell (who did what they could) and Cole and Campbell (who were magnificent), the rest of those players should HANG THEIR HEADS - because all they did was thump it to red shirts all night, and quite honestly, we were damn lucky to get as far as pens.

I am LIVID.

I am pi$$ed off as well - defending deep was suicidal.

Let's hope we learn from this ?

We played poorly, but we had an equally important game only 72 hours ago, I'm sure the matches are not usually this close together it does seem a bit unfair in a major tournament to play the games so closely together

I agree that we were poor, and that the better side won. However I am not angry, I would have felt a lot worse if the Albion had lost the Play-Off Final.
i am Furious but would have been absoulutely Livid if we lost the play off final

Right.

So can you please present your defence of the England performance tonight ? (WITHOUT resorting to the shit decision in the 90th). Because if we deserved to win that match, and you can convince me of that, then I will spend the rest of the month speaking in Japanese.

why didnt we attack like we did in extra time from the 5th minute? when we attacked from 90th minute we got two legitimate goals :(

England are the Brighton of European football but not quite as good (or as lucky).

Portugal were much the better side and showed flair and craft , England defended gallantly and once again were glorious losers robbed by a referee but outclassed over the 120 mins.

Did I catch the Radio Five Live verdict on the Campbell goal right? They AGREED with the referees decision. An England arm over the goalkeeper's shoulder.

Meanwhile on the pitch ... the referee was indicating a push. For sure there wasn't one of those.

Any defence of the England performance will focus on the doggedness of the England back four once Portugal had decided to push everything forward into getting an equaliser. But why the hell did the midfield settle into defensive mode? That simply gave all of the initiative to Portugal and wrote Owen and Vassell out of the game.

We only managed to move forward effectively once a tired Portugal eased up after the equaliser.

it's not bollox,
the england midfield were made to look less than ordinary by the Portugese.

At the best, all you could say about them was that they tried their best to chase the ball down, but that's about it.

The passing was woeful, but most of the time it was just thump up to the portugese back four - guess what's gonna happen next?
That's right, another portugese attack.

we were the second best team on the pitch.

(the ref was an even bigger disgrace - not just the disallowed goal, but all night he blew up against our players, and did nothing when the portugese made similar challenges -I think that UEFA need to take a long look at using that guy again).

Only defence of our laclustre performance is that our boys only had 2 days rest after the last big game - that's not long enough. especially when the Portugese had 50% longer
