Eduardo ban is NOT leading to a clampdown on diving!

To be fair you didn't post it at the best time, there aren't many people around at 1:00 in the morning!

I'm disapointed but not surprised, it was always likely to be the case. Only in cases where the opposition kick up a fuss will this be followed up. Otherwise they risk upsetting too many powerful people.

It would appear, as F365 reported at the time, that Eduardo has only been singled out because he committed his dive in a match against Scottish opponents broadcast on free-for-all television on a day of the week when no other high-profile games were being played.

That sounds about right, WTF is that all about?

What about Aiden MCGeady's dive at Hibs? Didn't hear much complaining about "cheating" or "diving" from Sellick fans after that one.

Arsenal are justified in being annoyed IMO, if the ref didn't see the dive he didn't see it. Looks like Ronaldo now has a green light to hit the deck like a dying swan at every game Real Madrid play from here on

As has been said on the Eduar-DOH thread, the fact that UEFA have somewhat arbitrarily picked out this one instance amongst the plethora of dives we see week-in, week-out, without actually making a commitment to restrospectively punishing ALL divers, is bound to leave Arsenal wondering why this one individual case has been singled out and punished.

UEFA SHOULD be doing more to stamp this stuff out, and Eduardo should have got a longer ban (6 games in my opinion). Its just the half-arsed, random way UEFA are going about it that calls it all into question.

C'mon UEFA, show some bollocks, and make this the start of a very serious clampdown. If teams appeal with no additional relevant information to present other than whinging that UEFA are picking on them, then the ban should be increased.

If this is a one-off then it will be incredibly infuriating - although not altogether surprising - and will inevitably lead to Eduardos ban being overturned.

That's it fellas, keep diving, we'll all keep loving each other and the gravy train will continue to roll. Well, bollocks to it, all this blatant cheating is detroying the game as a spectacle, but no-one wants to admit it.

joke, and means Arsenals appeal is certain to succeed and the ban will be removed completely as unfair. they might as well retract the ban to save everyone the hassle.

I thought this was a bold and positive move, seems someone somewhere has decided UEFA went too far and have made them go back.

There seems to be a certain kind of dive going on among forwards today, and Ronaldo is the master at it. The defender goes in fairly, the diver begins to flop, but as he goes over he either trails a leg or jabs it out mid-dive to make sure there's some kind of contact with the outstretched leg of the defender making a legitimate tackle.

The cheat begins to fall then makes contact, bloody infuriating it is

Its obvious that its a dive, but to be devils advocate for a second, if a keeper goes flying in like that then he knows that the forward is going to go down!

If Eduardo had kept his foot on the floor then there would have been strong contact, and who can blame him for not wanting to take a big hit on his legs again?

I can't see any evidence of contact in that video. His foot is already lifting off at an angle, there's no evidence that his ankle is pushed by Boruc's knee. Regardless of which, this is a contact sport, and that is not a foul. It's still a dive.

I disagree. The toes on his right foot move inward following contact, not a movement you would simulate. So, I believe there was contact. However, I don't believe it was enough to make him fall so I agree there was simulation but it's not the most blatant example. Just look at Eboue!

I can. It's football, not tiddlywinks. If he's not up to playing a contact sport then he shouldn't play. Eduardo was running anyway, that's the reason that there's no contact with Boruc, it's nothing to do with him purposely avoiding the challenge.

Im not for one second saying that it was a penalty but if you broke your leg like that would you think twice about going in for a challenge where you could injure youself again?
